Well, here is my first post. I have done a bunch of reading while I was shopping or a S197 to add to my stable. Now I have found one and it is a bit of a project, but mostly simple stuff. Here is the question.
I am going to buy a 2010 GT with a 4.6. It had the Shaker system with the HVAC controls and the stereo head unit in the same faceplate. The dude who owns it says the HVAC and the stereo head unit both went out. He equated it to the fact it had a parasitic draw and essentially burned out the units. I have read about the parasitic draw, so I guess that’s plausible. Seems odd to me that both systems would go out. I feel that both of them failing would be indicative of something bigger, a fuse, short, or other supply issue. But, I could be wrong. My plan is to get the car to my garage and go to work with an electrical tester. My hope is that it all tests fine and I can install an upgraded unit, like a Dynavin. Worse case scenario, I break out out the wiring schematic and trace the wires. Wiring doesn’t scare me, unless it’s somebody else’s work. My 71 Mach 1 went up in smoke a few years back when a wire under the dash shorted out. I rewired that entire thing over a winter. I have rewired boats and motorcycles. Just figured I’d post here to see if the brain trust has any insight as I go forward.
Attached a pic of what it looks like as it sits.
Thanks in advance,
Erik
