Yeah, I ended up selling that car for like 4600 after I had returned it to stock. Should've kept it. Just bought one in worse shape with way more miles for 5K for my wife (well, she bought it I picked it up :))

Yes (and thank you for the kind words). I have a nice little hole in my x pipe from the constant bottoming. Even 550/300 rates had zero chance of keeping it off the bumpstops.

If those videos don't make you want to hillclimb I don't know what will. Awesome!

Man, I would so love to do this. I checked into it about a year ago, even joined the PA Hillclimb board. I can't seem to get answers on what class my car would fit in.....if any at all. And what safety gear I would need. The people kept referring me to the SCCA rule book, which is confusing at best. I still have no idea.

Anyone want to give me some pointers on where I would fit in and what safety requirements I would be looking at?

Not sure what mods you have done, post up a complete list and I can help you out on classing. Not many guys on the board over there know very much about our cars. There are a few of us with street legal "muscle cars" that know about classing but rarely post. We follow SCCA road race classification, and we also have Street Mod, Super Street Mod, Street Mod Fwd, and all the street prepared classes. There are also 3 unlimited classes called Special 1-3. If you ran an actual Indy car (there were 2 there over the weekend) that would fit into Special.

In regards to safety equipment it all depends on classing, but for the most part a 4 point rollbar (Maximum Motorsport and a couple others are legal, AFAIK the Watson isn't) 5/6/7 point harness, arm restrains or window net, gloves, and a SA rated helmet. If you don't have an FIA seat I think you are supposed to have a back brace but I have never seen that enforced. Pretty much what you need for road racing minus full cage. If you do want to read the rules a hillclimb is considered a Level 4 time trial.

They also tech the car in so it has to be safe.

Thanks Mark! Just what i was looking for, someone who is in that world but also understands the Mustang angle. My 2007, which is what I would want to run is......stupid.

-It's blown and makes 1000hp. So pretty much custom and aftermarket everything.

-The entire suspension is aftermarket/custom. Coilovers, watts link, yada, yada, yada.

-Big brakes.

-I do have the MM bar with 5pt harnesses.

-My seats are not FIA approved, but only because the covers aren't fire rated. Aside from that they are a full blown race seat deal. I can do a back brace no problem.

-I have personal gear. Helmet, suit, gloves, etc.

-Arm restraints and a net are no biggie. I could have those in without any trouble.

So what sort of class does the most useless S197 ever devised fit in?:banana-mario:

Thanks!

Seems like a solid fit for Street Mod. Would love to see a silly hp Mustang show up. Hopefully I will have a blower on for next year. We do have a Mach 1 with a 5.0L and a Procharger, it makes 600rwhp. I used to have a blown Notch, a buddy of mine who is running his girlfriends C4 Corvette this year has a blown notch, and we have a 700hp NASCAR truck at most events.

The Mach 1 was crossing the finish at like 146mph at Duryea (video below), can't imagine what another 400hp would be like!

If I can get it to hook, it will be scary (god scary). If not it will be a big fat smoke show.

Where can I see a list of events/ dates?

Thanks!:cheersman:

Jason, you could do it in Street Modified, but why? Expensive way to beat the hell out of a good car. You have about 500hp too many. I have lived about 5 miles from that hill for over 40 years and drive it regularly (sometimes at 3/4 speed, staying in my lane of course). I have to honestly say that you have to be crazy to ruin your nice/expensive car doing that.

If you are into European-style Rallye racing, this might be your thing. Watch the video and listen to his engine and watch all the bouncing around on pavement bumps and wiggling as you try to get traction. Blaaahh, brake, blaaahh, brake, blaaah, brake. This is small/light car's course, not at all technical driving like a real road course. A heavy high-powered car is just a waste here. You mash the pedal and slide on the crappy road surface for about 100 feet, then you smash your brakes down and steer around hairpins covered in small gravel, then repeat. Then, when you get a chance to go full throttle at the top of the hill, that road is lined with wide-open widow-maker trees, rocks piled up along the road by workers during The Great Depression and just enough guardrail to give the illusion of safety (remember, if you go off course here, you go off of a mountain edge). For a few hundred dollars, you may only get 4 runs in. And Giant's Despair is just as crazy, because you will spend tons of time bottoming out your suspension and correcting for oversteer. Oh fun!?! Sucks to get easily beaten by a guy in a Legends car too (don't ask).

You have no clue what you are talking about. Have you even come to an event? The closest Legends car to my exhaust/tune/tires '14 GT was 4 seconds and 11 seconds slower (2 separate classes of Legends car).

http://pahillclimb.org/live-results/

Both times were also records in both Legends classes.

http://pahillclimb.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2015-Giants-Despair-Results.pdf

My friends' (girlfriend and him race it together) ~640hp C4 Corvette went even faster than I did, and another friends' '04 Mach 1 with a procharger also went a bit faster in past events (was broke this year).

Big power cars dominate this hill. Of all the hills we run this hill is by far the biggest power hill there is.

And the 8 runs they got this year was the least I have ever seen. We have gotten up to 16, so again, you are wrong.

Howdy Boost.
Your biggest problem will be(I'm making an assumption here), with the roots blower. So right foot control is your friend. Street Mod can be a crazy class and it houses the fastest street cars to EVER run in our series.
I'm the guy in the Mach 1

Mr dream07
You should come visit us on August 15/16. We can properly educate you on not only how well a heavy-high powered car can do at a hillclimb but also how it will destroy a legends car there. I run 11 seconds faster at Duryea than the closest legends car record. That record is in the INEX MOD class. INEX is a legends spec class and INEX MOD is modified legends cars. Engines, tires, etc can be modified in order to make them faster.

Just to give you a clue as to how fast a street car can be and what it can do at Duryea, the following picture is from 2014 and is the top 6 cars:

IMG_20150108_211630_zpscigfncsk.jpg

There's a 3705lb(with me in it) mustang in the mix of all that. You can go pahillclimb.org and look up the results for Duryea 2014 and you'll see the results with me #2. I don't post or brag unless I can back it up.
ANY driver in a legends car who wants to take a shot at beating me or Mark, at ANY hill, is a dreamer.

I must add that hillclimbing is extremely technical. While it's easy to drive the road in the right lane at the speedlimit or 10 over, at 4, 5 or 6 times the speed limit, you better know where you're going and how to get there. You must master which crown to cross and which crown to follow. Classic lines do not work here. For the faint of heart, you can follow the yellow line from start to finish and you can't get into trouble.

We encourage any mustang owner to come out and race. The road is closed and you can use both lanes. Fast as you can go.
There are no speeding tickets and you won't kill mommy and her 8 kids in the minivan.
Mark and I are mustang guys and are always looking to get more of us at the hills. If you can't drive, come see us. You can find us in the pits by asking anyone. They all know who we are :)

I'm very, very interested. I would really like to come out and watch and event and help out in the pits if you can use me. I would like to get a feel for the environment. Next date Aug 15-16? Where exactly is that (so I can google map it). Will you guys be attending? I would like to tag along if you guys have room for that.

Sounds like a great time, and the danger, slideways, on the edge of control, etc part is right up my alley. Before I went motorcycle roadracing I was the moron knee down up in the mountains. One of my biggest regrets was never doing the Isle Of Man. This sounds like a blast.

Just need to figure out how to get the car to hook up better. Maybe go a lot softer on the rear springs. Right now it's hazing 315mm R888's all the way though 138mph when I make the shift into 4th.

Any info would be appreciated and if someone can show me around for a weekend I would really appreciate that to.

Thanks!

Next event is Polish Mountain Hillclimb August 1-2..

http://pahillclimb.org/schedule-results/

Duryea is on the 15-16th. Polish is with all honesty not the best hill to spectate, but you could definitely get a great sense of what goes on at the hills. Duryea is just craziness, we only end up getting a few runs and the hill is very intense so it may be harder to shadow drivers. Great hill to spectate at.
