Never had a good experience with Carmax. Sold 1 car to them and tried to trade in other cars.
I tried bringing my 03 10th Anniversary Cobra in with 22-23K miles on it, flawless condition and was offered 13K. They tried telling me that sub-frame connects were only there because there was frame damage, this car must have had nitrous because of the way the bungs on the exhaust were installed, etc.
The ONLY time I have ever had an experience buying a car was at a Chevy dealer. We traded in the Wife's blown 07 GT which was in a bad accident, had 60-61K miles on the clock and got $14,900 for it on a Volt. They gave us more than we were offered at any Ford dealer when trying to get into a new Fusion.
Personally, I would try to go for a Private-Party sale as you have a good chance to get more for the car vs. going to a dealer or Carmax.
