Sorry I didn't explain.
I had the push-down shifter on my first car (Civic, 15 1/2 at the time) and thought it was pretty nice and really smooth. A lot better than just putting it in 'D' then go. I had a nice chrome shift ball but left the shift stick (Forgive me if that's not what it's called) and the console stock. I thought it looked pretty decent.
From a visual stand point, I think if they did the same and just replaced the shift stick and/or knob and eliminate the boot (or make it shorter)it would look a lot better.
EDIT: Don, I thought you were the OP, my bad. Alcohol + replying on forums = fail for me.
But as to why I'd get the TCI, it looks good and I like how it functions. Sometimes I wish I did have an auto with the TCI, the closest thing to having the best of both worlds. I love my MT and never get tired of it, but I know I can't outshift a computer at the dragstrip when the time comes.
