Automatic Transmission Fluid change.

Hi.

Just started to change the ATF this evening. But I'm a little confused about the gasket for the drain plug. ? On the Pan is stamped " This pan equiped with a reusable gasket" ...... so far so good, but there is no O-ring on the drain plug. ?

Do I need a O-ring combined with the reusable gasket, or not ?

Tried to google that, but no luck so far :-(

Do yourself a favor and get this and call it a day. https://www.trickflow.com/parts/tfs-1012 . I have one and the extra 2 / 3 quarts of Redline keeps the tranny a lot cooler now.

The reusable gasket it's referring to is the one that seals the pan to the transmission. If there was no drain plug, you'd have to drop the pan and then you would be able to inspect that gasket. There's no need to buy a new o-ring for the drain plug (if there even is one) if it's not cracked or leaking.

Just added 2 qts . No drips so far ....... just asked , because all the drain plugs I can see in the stores are with the O-ring.

......... but anyway, it don't make sense to put on a O-ring together with the flat gasket. ?

You should drop the pan anyways. The drain plug is no where near the bottom of the pan and there is a bunch of old fluid still in there plus the little magnet with all the gunk stuck to it. Be sure to drain the cooler and lines too. Did you buy the little fill thingy? I did and it made it a ton easier to pump the fluid in.
