This is why you don't gift purchases. There's even a vendor on this forum who always prices items specifying that you must gift the money through paypal. I will never do business with that vendor and if I did, I would ignore his request and specify it as a purchase.

This entire thread is proof of why you do not gift funds through paypal when buying something from somebody you have never met.

Don't lump everyone/all vendors who ask for payments to be gifted the same; there are those of us that have 100% feedback that have worked hard to earn that trust/feedback regardless of the payment was gifted or not.

1 bad gifted transaction does not ruin it for everyone, glad everyone does not think like you do.

I am not afraid to gift a payment to certain vendors/individuals. I've also had customers gift payments to me, which I appreciate. It's all about the risk you're willing to take. You can mitigate your risk by dealing with the right people.

Doesnt matter...you can still dispute a charge on your account.

It does matter. If it's paid from a balance in your PP acct and was paid as a gift, there's absolutely nothing you can do. If it's paid by pulling money from your bank account, then you have to deal with your credit union or bank, and it's not nearly as simple of a process as a CC dispute. I've been down that road, and it's a nightmare to try to get anything recovered.

Simple fix...dont maintain a balance in your PP acct...and use a card as added protection. Really not that difficult.

While it should not even come to an issue in the first place...it's still better to prepared in case it does.

Why gift it if you use a credit card then you are charged the fees for sending the money at that point why not just add the money to cover the fees and send it regularly through paypal as a purchase transaction

Good point. You can't send a payment as a gift using a CC as the funding source without being charged 3% or whatever it is.

I won't gift thru PP period. Vendor or not The whole purpose is security while purchasing online. Price of doing business IMO.

Edit: unless it is truly a gift.

Not necessarily directed to you, but I would like to know why the buyer doesn't have to pay those fees since it's for their own security. It just feels backwards to me. Paypal charges the fees out of the money being sent to the seller. But the fees aren't to protect the seller, they're to protect the buyer.

IMO, Paypal should have it setup so the buyer pays the fees since it's for the buyers security. You want to be protected, you pay the fee. To me, it's that simple. To Paypal, it's not.

I do a lot of transactions through Paypal, and I've sent money as a gift on purchases to known sellers. And as a seller, I ask for payment to be sent as a gift or fees to be added if it's a high dollar item. Some people are okay with it, some aren't. I feel like I'm established enough to comfortably ask for that trust.

Pay pal is to protect both parties, seller and buyer.. Long as the seller has a good itrader score,I don't mind doing the transaction as a gift.. But I try to be careful with who I deal with...

^I believe I would take his offer. One of the pitfalls of buying things long distance is that somebody has to pay the shipping regardless of whether or not the transaction is satisfactory. IMO an ideal scenario is that each of you pay shipping but arguing over less than $20 difference isn't a productive use of time.

^ I agree, maybe the shipping broke something lose inside that the seller was unaware of...sounds like a shitty situation but least he's working with you somewhat.

Exactly what I would do as well...wash her hands of these parts, eat the shipping cost back to him and find resonators that meet your requirements.
