You could purchase a new one (expensive) put the new one in and run the tune then if you ever take it to the dealer put the original pcm back in without the tune.
A friend of mine did that with on of his cars and it worked.

I think it was a mopar tho. Maybe their systems and what not are different idk.

I believe Only the dealer can swap the EMS, and they're probably going to ask you why you're bring a second EMS to them to put in your car. Something to do with matching VINs and such.

If you look on tousley's site, the pcm's are pre tuned with your vehicles strategy code. As there are about 10 different pcm part #'s

so could that be solution? switch plug and play? key reprogramming?

i cant believe no one has previously done this, most others car makes (as you mentioned) do this.

I agree with stkjock. Kingcrabb the more you post, the more credibility you lose. How can you say without a doubt that the tune wasn't the cause of 90+% of the failures? It wasn't just #8 either. Do you have datalogs from cars that failed as conclusive evidence?

Here is something else to think about, why didn't the power adder cars have the same issue? If your theory was correct, we would have seen the same percentage of those cars have a failure. It just didn't happen and for a couple of reasons:

1. Less timing.
2. More fuel.

See the pattern here? The N/A tuned cars that had failure were running too lean and too much timing with the knock sensor sensitivity adjusted.

Are you gonna throw out the theory that an angry UAW worker must have installed all #8 rings upside down causing all the failures or eventual failures?

You are better off just stepping away from this discussion.

Go with a reputable tuner and you will be fine. Always run 91/93 in the car and you will be a happy owner. Don't let this fear mongering, bullshit deter you.

If the problem was solely the tune then why didnt mine blow up? I had the original Bama tune (the one with super aggressive timing and lean af) and ran the balls out of my car since day one. Then when the #8 issues started popping up all the tuners started dumbing down the tunes a little.

You are right about the boosted tunes with less timing and more fuel.

The main thing I am trying to get it is that you cant blame one tuner for these problems as every tuner including your beloved sugar daddy lund has had a failure. (sorry for the run on sentence).
I have seen a motor pop with out a tune first hand and it only takes one to validate the fact that it is possible.

And another thing.
My buddy has a 2010 gt. Thinking of trading it for an 11'. He posted this on Facebook.

^that is the link not sure on Steve's privacy settings tho. You may or may not be able to view it.

All I was getting at here is that Lund had a failure (oh no) so stop bashing Bama. They are both great tuners. For my own personal experience I have tried both and Bama has been there where Lund left me in the dark.

I realize the value of all tuners, I have 0 preferences. I chimed in on this thread to gain info on tuners and to look further into the #8 cyl problem.

Like I stated I am just uneasy to mod a new 5.0 when something as simple as a tune can void the whole drivetrain warranty.

I am also wondering why no one has tried swapping out the ecm. surely its a great insurance policy if all works correctly.

Chris, what happened with your car when you got the fault? what did your dealership tell you and end up happening?

I thought the keys must be reprogrammed to match the new EMS.

Where is Doug Studdard since AM bought him out? He's not writing tunes anymore so what's he doing, stocking shelves. I trusted him with my last car and I would trust him again.

Evo's email tunes off their website are Lund tunes.
not all no. Go back and research you will see there are quite a few people who found evo does not use Lund for everything.

Also every case Lund has been connected to a number 8 failing the person also ran a diff tune prior. Number 8 just does not let go. Fact.

KingCrabb is trying to get himself in the Biggest DB thread.

We get it, you can't post without mentioning the Lund tuned failure.

You've made your point, if you've got nothing else to contribute besides misinformation and clips of Facebook posts, you know where the door is.

What Misinformation have I posted? That not ALL evos tunes are Lund tunes. Whoops my bad. Everything els has all been fact and non you guys want to except the fact that a very small hand full of these motors had problems from the factory. Big deal. The part I dont understand is how you guys can bash a shop cuz they had some tunes on cars that blew...again, big deal.

And the only reason I keep coming back is because its amusing how you guys react to my comments.
And I'm not just gonna run away, that would be to easy.

You just ran yourself down to 0 credibility. If you keep going you are going to go into credibility debt and there are no credibility debt consolidators to help you out. It is probably a good time for you to exit stage left. :thumb2:
