is the pcm something that can be swapped out? ie can a new one be ordered from ford?
That IMO is speculation. I have yet to see anything conclusive as to the causation of the #8 issues.

Yeah, a single car proves every thing. To start, My buddys car AGAIN!!!!(non tune car)
And secondly there have been multiple #8 failures with just about every tune. Even the beloved God all Mighty Lund tune...
I could be 100% wrong though I thought they wouldn't provide you a computer without the vin-matched factory one as a swap?
The risk is slim to non. The problem is NOT the tune. It was Ford, They had some bad motors and the tunes only made the inevitable happen sooner.

it makes perfect sense for them to do that. wow though. looks like any reflash will be out of our future plans. if we do a catback exhaust on this will they try to deny warranty too? when does the madness end
I know I am taking this even farther away from the topic, but have you ever used a Steeda tune?

Hate to say it but you are wrong.
You can buy a PCM from any dealer with any of the computer codes

if this needs to happen and I am not sure it does. You can do this with an ids tool yourself.Your keys will have to be programmed to work with the new computer. And you most likely have to have a Ford dealer do it. Would look kinda weird, and telling, if you brought in a blown motor car with keys that weren't programmed to the PCM.
I'm not saying it can't work. However, as I recall the Ford TSB on the #8 issue, the tech is charged with inspecting the car for signs of modifications, so one better do a damn clean job of doing any swap so that it would appear none of the stock parts look like they have been removed and replaced.
