Looking at getting a BBR Short Block. I've got a list of somethings that I figure I'll need, but would like to see if there might be anything else I might need. List that follows is what I was figuring I will need with their option of an 8 bolt forged crank.
New flywheel with bolts
Head Gaskets
Oil Pan Gasket
Oil Pump
Oil

There is the list I believe I'll need. Anything I don't need? I've got a Spec 3+ clutch I've been told I can keep so thank God on that one. Would a new oil pan be worth it, as in a larger one?

but you will also need

coolant
adapter plates ( if going with a steel block )
as far as the oil pan you don't need it but it looks pretty lol
id spring for a livernois crankshaft scraper too while it's out

i know they have a couple other things needed but i honestly can't remember for shit ...which i should i just had to buy it ...some of it twice:thud:

what about timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets, etc.........???? I know some ppl re-use them but its not always the best idea. Intake gaskets too (those you will most likely be able to re use, but hey, why not)

That just saved me almost $1k right there with the new crank and flywheel! :)

just remeber one thing in the 4.6 game ....just because they make it doesn't mean you need it !

Pleanty of ST Motorsports cars making between 600-700 rwhp with the stock crank and fly wheel ..just good pistons ,rings, rods, Arp head studs, and gaskets ...dont forget to put in a good clutch or any other hard to reach items once the motor out. BBR seams to be a good shop on the wrong coast (lol) GO Dolphins!

Iron blocks are worthless.
really? Iron is usually cheaper, and probably no weaker than a good aluminum block? Not as light as aluminum or dissipate heat as quickly as aluminum, but I don't think that would put it in the category labeled "worthless", would it? :-D

I think the better way to put it is why downgrade from an already solid platform?

And to the OP: An aftermarket crank isn't always necessary, BUT I can tell you from first hand experience there's a hell of a weight difference between the two. I'll stick it on a scale monday, I'm willing to bet my stockers 10lbs heavier than the one sitting in my car! No doubt the stockers strong, but so is an iron block...... Take it for what it's worth :beerchug2:

10 lbs in the rotating assembly that big of a deal when I'm max hp that I'd ever make would be around the 550-600 rwhp? Just not sure if 10 lbs would really make that big of a difference for the cost difference?

Its all in what your looking for, just showing there are 2 sides to every coin. If your in to weight reduction though, people pay more for less!
