I have been trying to find one of the Optima Reds but talking to several people in the Parts industry they say that the Optima's are way overpriced for what they are and 8 out of 10 go bad in a year. Any thoughts

I'd just go with the good ole motorcrafts if you dont have any crazy electronics or system set up. keep the reciepts and you can have them warrantied at any Ford dealer if they go bad.

Aftermarket batteries and spark plugs seem to be replaced here all the time. especially auto lite

I had a red top go bad in my 65 but the warranty covered it and I haven't had a problem since with that one or the yellow top in my 05.

Montreal Qc,
If there will be track use that will drain the battery down then you should run the Yelow Top. If you won't be running it down go with the Red Top since it is lighter.
I'm running the Yellow Top.

I just find hard the idea to put a yellow thing in my car (or a red).

But i think i will go to yellow when mine wanted to die.

I have a Yellow Top that is two years old and it works fine but I don't have any heavy useage stuff in the car.

When mine finally gave out a week or two ago, I stole the one out of the wrecked SYT. That's when I found out his stock battery was smaller.

Extra battery for the running the top, I get it... though I don't move the top without the engine running myself...

My yellow-top has been fine (once I found the lose wire that was fucking things up)...
