So I am going to be putting the Mustang back into more regular use each week and it's going to be receiving a little love. I know with the age these cars are at now there is a bunch of little known tricks, modifications and upgrades to improve them.

I have read a bit about the "big 3" grounds, seems like it would be a worthwhile modification with the age of the electrical system in the car. Who has done this? Any factory grounds known to be problematic I should also check?

I also need to check my cowl drains again and the drain holes in the rockers/doors. What other similar upgrades or things have you guys done to your cars? Things that have been noted issues with the age/miles these cars are now at?

For consideration:

Grounds - Finally found the cause of my low voltage - Beware the all important grounds.

Window seals - In addition to cleaning cowl drains you might want to replace the upper window seals. They're likely perished and people often overlook them or don't know they exist. The lowest cost alternative compared to stock is using 1/8" thick x 1" wide foam tape that you can get at most any hardware store.

What have you done to your mustang today?

A piece of advice. The S197 is over 20 years old now. Clean up the grounds on the strut tower, behind the engine on the drivers side, and the wiring harness ground points to the passenger side of the radiator. Clean the rust off to get to bare metal. Many people use di-electric grease to protect from further corrosion, but that is actually an insulator. It does not carry a current.
I have found a conductive grease that will allow a current to pass through it. It gets used very sparingly, because it contains carbon black and can be messy. But it’s great for making a solid contact and prevents rust from reforming. Works great on battery terminals too.IMG_0069.jpeg
