Did any of you see the current issue of Car Craft magazine (April 09)? There is a 2-page spread of a Jon Kaase-built Boss 429 stuffed in an '07 Mustang.

Actually, with a 4.627" bore and a 4.375" stroke, it displaces 589 ci, not 429. It made 973 hp, with an aggressive cam, but "Kaase deemed it too rough for his street taste". The milder cam resulted in 885hp and 801 tq. Not bad for a single carburetor and no juice.

It really looks sweet nestled in there. I like these kinds of oddball projects. Pretty cool, IMO.

I guess I have to go out and buy that magazine. The Boss 429 is my favorite car of all time. That engine in an S197 just sounds badass!!!

That buildup was chronicled on 460Ford.com last year. Pretty slick setup. Friend of mine named Chuck Lawrence did quite a lot of the specialty construction on the car. We talked for quite a while at the PRI show and Chuck was ranting and raving about how nice the car drives. Even with the relatively large camshaft it is very tractable. What got me was how well that big bastard fit in the S197 engine compartment. The headers were custom build by Chuck but they were very simple to build. He said the headers took less than 20 hours to fabricate.

They are planning on building another one with EFI and an automatic transmission with an overdrive (4R70W).

Saw that on the internet last year. Don't remember where, probably where SD is referring to. Pretty slick.

Don, you always said you were going to go old school one day.

900hp N/A would be very cool!!
It would be very cool indeed... especially with something like a Lencodrive behind it. But it would take a minor miracle for me to afford Kaase power.

Aaaawww now........we all know you're independently wealthy.

Wait...sorry......that would be the other guy from California with a blue car. My mistake, Don.
