Hey guys, much love for Brenspeed! I know the NSR Comp Cams 127200 will pass California or other State emissions test's but will the NSR Detroit Rocker 3VSC supercharger cam from Brenspeed pass the sniffer test? 127200Comps don't have that much lope and wanted to know if anyone here installed Detroit Rockers and passed come emissions time. Brenspeed thought they might but was on the fence. Thanks!

They still use a sniffer on an OBDII equipped car? That seems weird.

I already searched Google, YouTube and our forum. Might start messaging Detroit Rocker YouTube video posters the question. Any help here would be beautiful!

I think they did put those tubes on one or both of my car's tail pipes almost two years ago, but I can't remember

It changed around August of last year. When I got the Mustang smogged earlier in the year it went on the rollers. In August I had to get the SUV smogged, it's an 08, and they just plugged in to the computer. Never even popped the hood.

The only issue I see is that you still have to pass "visual". Unless your smog guy is cool the lopey idle might tip them off that something isn't stock.

Thank you. Can they really fail you based on sound alone? I really don't know...If they can then that would probably be a Fail LoL. Rump rump rump rump rump LoL. I just hoped all I had to do was pass a visualof CARB CERTIFIED aftermarket parts and pass the computer test. Didn't think more lope would be an instant fail???

+1

The LSA of the cam is going to effect a sniffer more than anything. The tighter the LSA the more fresh air/unburned fuel you're going to have in the exhaust. Even with my cats on, when I had the 127020 cams it would not pass a sniff by a mile. Was a total hell no. (I know a smog guy, we were curious what my emissions were compared to stock with and w/o cats.)

Detroit Rockers, if I had to guess, would be like 110-112 LSA for their N/A grind and 112-114 LSA for their blower grind. I can't see a cam with that much lope in a blower grind run more than 114 LSA. I see a lot of recommendations to run the N/A grind in FI street applications because they apparently give a little better bottom end, while the blower grinds give better peak numbers at the top. I've seen basic spec's of their cams posted somewhere on the web, probably MF or something, but I haven't seen them list the LSA specs, ever. For reference, the HotRod cams have a 110 LSA, and the Comp 127020's have a 109 LSA.

I'd consider the DR N/A Grind for my Centri, but I intend to consult with Comp Cams to see if I can get a custom grind done. I basicly want my stock cams, just move more air. Love the stock cam torque curve and powerband lol. Give a damn about thump anymore... maybe a little thump.

01YellerCobra thanks for the info and numbers. I plan on running a twin screw or top mounted FI unit

I'd prefer to register here at home...sounds like a lot to figure out how and where and travel outside of the State of California

Brenspeed said a lot of guys have ordered the Detroit Rockers here in Cali but they didn't know for sure if they passed or not. Where are all those guys??? Hahaha

One of the reasons I got rid of my 01 was because of smog. It was getting to be a hassle and expensive. I'm trying to keep things closer to legal this time around.

01yellarCobra yea same here...unless somebody chimes in on the Detroit Rockers, I will probably just go with the 127200's.

California build LOL:

Comp Cams 127200
JBA Ceramic Shorty Headers-CARB#
Port and polish my heads
Whipple Intercooled Supercharger-CARB#

I already have thousands put into the suspension, drivetrain, power mods and also about another $9-$10K invested in just the body. Did a crap load of the work myself to save money. For example, took me forever to cut out all the metal in the rear wheel wells. Now my guy has it in the shop doing body work and engine oil seals. Haven't had the car in 3 months LoL! Should be back in a few more weeks! A lot of fiberglassing, reshaping, customizing the body and fenders by hand and then paint time! I work on and check up on her every week :)
