What are some of the advantages and dis-advantages of each?

Vs each other? or stock?

What are you looking to do with the car? There are some fast - big power cars running stock ECU

the BS3 is a pretty bad ass system very user friendly and will support and bunch of power.

there logging soft wear makes it very easy to make changes and get the car dialed in.

plus you can LS coils which helps alot

Looking to Give Eric some competition! :roflmao:

I have a build thread but 1200 through an th400 is what I am looking to do...

Are these two basically the same? I read somewhere that the Guy that designed FAST now designed BS3...Just looking to see what if any differences are....

Ha yea i dont have a 3v but i have been helping Jeostang dial in his tune. Seems to be working pretty good so far.

I have not done much with fast so i really cant comment on it.

i do like the BS3 though. Let me know if you need any pricing! i also offer a coil mount that will go under our intake for the LS coils

i could even set u up with a base tune for the BS3 to get you started

Ha I was refering more to JPC as a whole, although of course my car will have to have some of the JPC components!

Ya I will be getting the coil mount for my intake if I dont go with a distributor so I can use an MSD box....

omg why?!

Looks like the motec 400 and BS3 are both a bit over $3k
There is a cheaper motec but It doesnt look like it supports VCT

I tuned a car with one of those FAST complete systems, with the 4 barrel throttle body deal, and the software was archaic garbage, worse than DSMlink. Also, I couldnt figure out how to do real-time update, Im not even sure if it supports it. Which, if it doesnt, that is some stupid shit, idk how they expect you to tune properly.

To keep it simple. To many things can go wrong with coil on plug....lot less to deal with...plus you get traction control function with a distributer....

I disagree, coil on plug is simple and reliable. Especially nowadays when you can get good coils cheap.

I know Motec has traction control in the ECU and I bet the BS3 does as well.
Using an MSD box is silly when modern ECUs can do everything.

I think theyre just doing it because theyre using magneto ignition so they can get super high voltage, plus its super reliable.
I think they still use them on small aircraft for that reason as well.

I'm not trying to bash anyone here but the controls and function that motec m800 has is not even comparable with any other Stand alone ecu. I've been using and tuning it for a while now and I can say its the best thing that I have ever done to my car

So you agree? Simple and reliable....

Magneto is different than an electronically controlled distributor. A magneto makes a powerful spark from induction, there is no coil, ignitor, anything. The only wires connected to it are the sparkplug wires.

Using a distributor means that you are just using a single ignition signal from the ECU and using it to fire the same coil over and over, and distributing that discharge between cylinders.
All of these ECUs have fully sequential ignition outputs, so why not use them? You get a better spark, youre decreasing the heat in the coils, and you have less rotating mass (I know its not much, but w/e). I would argue that COPs are more simple and reliable than a distributor.

Using a magneto would be pretty cool IMO, its main limitation is that youre ignition timing is fixed, so partial throttle is going to be terrible.

Sounds about right. Ive seen Motec is some serious high budget race race, like in WRC.

I see what your saying...IDK it was just an Idea....

I will get flammed for it but MMR has all the fastest modular cars and that is what they use.... Aside from a business perspective I dont think anyone can argue their cars run!

Motec is a good way to go but very expensive. But so far it's been very good to me I would still recommend it to any anyone that wants to have a race car

Motec is bad ass!! but expensive

I will say this when you have a Distributor and a MSD 7531 you can make magic happen!!

I will tell you i have learned more about making a car run to the 330 with a MSD 7531 in the past year then i can even explain. A lot of the 275 and ODR guys are still using that system. Its a very cost effective way to get a timing map per gear!!

I dont know much about either setup, I just want you to know your post included "MMR" and it made me spit up in my mouth a little.:mad2:
