Buddy is trading in his 08 gt with hid's. questions on swap

Ok I see a lot of post about putting the hid's into a non hid mustang. My question is, can I just swap housings? He keeps his hid bulbs and just use a non hid headlamp housing? And I take his and buy aftermarket hid bulbs? Is that possible?

The factory HID housings are different than the non-HID factory housings.

Was your buddy's car equipped with factory HIDs or was an aftermarket conversion done?

I don't think it would work like that as the HID housing is different than the halogen one.

If the both of you swapped the light harness along with the complete headlight assembly, that would work.

The light harness runs from the fuse box, all along the front of the vehicle. (Turn signals, fog lights, head lights and a few other misc connectors.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal to swap if you decide. The front bumper has to be removed to access it all, but if you really want it.. that would be what I recommend.

You will need to swap the whole housings, and headlight harness. And there is a pin or two you'll have to move in the main plug for the harness.

As mentioned, housings are completely different. Harness is easy to swap around when you have the bumper already off for the headlights. It's one plug on the back of the underhood fuse box that goes to all the front lights.

Just to be nosey, but I'm in the market for an 08/09. Do you know how much the dealer is offering him? Just to get a better idea of actual selling prices.
