so im racing my buds 01 cobra like i do many times in the summer. on one run, as soon as i shifted into fourth i let off the gas (red light ahead in the distance) and the car is still going. so im like wtf? (im NOT on the gas at this point) i then take the car out of gear, and it immediately pegs of the rev limiter so i quick check and the pedal is in its normal up position. so i shut the car off and pull off the road. a quick check underhood and it looks good. move forward a couple hours, racing the cobra again on the way home (i know we race a lot). the damn car does it again. but this time before i shut it off it makes a pretty bad grinding noise, not like bottom end noise but a grinding none the less (any ideas?). i let it sit for a sec before starting it up again and it sounds and feels normal. i drove it home and seems to be fine.

anyone know wtf is going on or have had this happen? and i havent really changed anything on the car (havent touched the tune in 8 months, only thing ive changed recently was my plugs and midpipe)

only thing i can think of is the tb is mechanically sticking open. and fwiw i shift pretty fast but no powershifting.

Do you have floormats? Mine stuck at WOT once when I had cheapie floormats in the car. I replaced those with the type that hook onto the carpet hook. I have not had it happen since.

+1. When my girlfriend got her 05 v6, it came with those rubber all weather think floor mats. Once when I went WOT while driving her car the pedal got stuck on the floor mat.

Check to see if your tuner disabled the Ford throttlebody failsafes! I would guarantee that most tuners do. These failsafes are what keep people from getting run over by an out of control car. A big liability on his part in court I bet.

There was a similar thread many months ago. Nothing was ever figured out in that one either. I have experienced the same thing before. Only a couple times, but it's hella unsettling.

Whose tune do you have? I have JDM's

Or could be the gas pedal assembly internals.

yea the brushes or internals like the gas pedal sensor could be all funked up, either replace the unit or open it up...
theres a thread on modifying your WOT by adjusting these brushes, could help you out.

i tuned it myself with hptuners. there was only two things i messed with dealing with throttle settings, one was to make sure the throttle could open 100% at any rpm and the other was like a sensitivity setting or something.

id also like to figure out that grinding noise. the car seems to run fine now but it almost sounded like the grinding noise when you miss a gear and it was rpm related cause as i shut the car off, the tone changed as the rpms dropped. could it be the timnig chain rattling or something with the vct? i fear if it happens again, whatever it was is going to break the next time.

i took out the gas pedal assembly today and looked at the brushes and everthing looks fine. i really doubt thats the problem. it has to be something electronic because if it was mechanically sticking open, when i started the car back up it should have wigged out then too.

the only thing i noticed on the tune was the "pedal follower" is disabled. but im pretty sure i never touched that but ill ask none the less. and i checked my tune and the only thing related to throttle setting was max throttle angle vs rpm. the other thing i was talking about was the "tip in torque rate max" but im pretty sure thats a spark thing/tq managment thing.

Wes, Justin, Eric, Lito, any ideas?

If that are the only things you changed then it wouldn't matter, what is set in engine/airflow/electronic throttle/wheel tq error?

the wheel tq error max is set to 25000 and i dont remember changing that. i have driven the car hard since then and no problems, maybe it was just a fluke but i would prefer to not have it happen again, and thanks to everyone who is helping.

and what were the tb failsafes mentioned above?

Same thing happened to me once on a stock tune. I was driving heavy footed when it happened...when I shifted to 3rd it started pegging the rev limiter as soon I hit the clutch. Never happened again after that. :wtf1:

Huh? WTF is your point? You obviously don't have a clue what I was getting at. Your "argument" doesn't even make any sense to what I was saying. Sound like you want to be a fuktard for the sake of being a fuktard.

fuktard.

Mechanical linkages 'stick' too...but at least with those you can manually fix 'em. I've never had that happen to me...but I think having a manual transmission is beneficial if something like this happens. The clutch isn't electronic (yet).

I really wish car companies would stop using fukin' drive-by-wire. I hate that shit so bad for more reasons than this.

+1 dude. its just one more thing to go wrong.

the more wires that you don't know what-the-fuck-in-a-head-scratching-world mean, the more problems.

the simpler the system, the less problematic.
it also makes life simpler when a problem does happen, because its easier to troubleshoot and fix.
