What is the urgent SCT 3015 update that the SCT website announces?

The SCT website www.sctflash.com states all 3015 Ford programmers with XP in the serial number need an "urgent" update. Before I do this (not having any problems) does anyone know what is going on? SCT is IMPOSSIBLE to reach by phone...

If they let us know what was so urgent, I will be happy to update, but mine is working fine without issues, so I wont fix what is not broken.

They really should post a reason for the update.
It's so critical lol. but we can't tell you why.

yea not doing it. not worth the risk, it's not like it's going to improve the uploading of my tunes lol.

I don't see a reason to update if you're working fine, they are not all going to suddenly blow up plus they are not giving a reason.

We've been talking with SCT for the last few weeks to get this updated firmware out there. The problems that we were seeing with back-to-stock failures are still very far and few, but a couple more than normal. We've been manually updating our tuners before they ship to the newest 1.2.142 firmware, so that customers don't have to worry. SCT is confident that it's solved, and we've been testing the new firmware on our own fleet of Mustangs just to make sure!

We haven't released an official notice yet because we want to investigate farther into the matter before we announce anything. We'll keep you guys updated as we get more info!

Don't forget to turn your Stang back to stock before updating!

Shane - would be helpful for members to know from what date did AM start shipping with the update?

While at the NMRA event in Joliet, JPC sent a new tune for me and when I went to go upload it to my X3 i was getting some weird message and it would not DL from the laptop to the X3 hand held. JPC ended up taking the tuner back with them and did an update and loaded the new tune to my hand-held. I have not been able to upload the tune yet because my car is 17 hours away from where im at currently, but you think its safe to install the new tune when i do go to flash my pcm? This critical update with no reason makes me afraid to even use the thing period.

Ok I got ya, I was confused. I did the update but didnt return my car to the stock tune first. I'm guessing maybe it didnt do the update then ? It did say it completed the update when I was sitting there waiting. Who knows, I'm just glad my car runs good. LOL

All you did was update to the latest device updater on your computer. That's totally different than updating the firmware on your device itself.

stkjock,

We've been sending out updated firmware SCTs for over a week now. Although, everyone should be checking for SCT firmware updates for their Bama tuners in general. This update mostly effects newer software tunes. Basically, if you have an 11+ Mustang you should check for the latest firmware update asap, just to have some extra reassurance.

Like I mentioned, everyone should be checking for firmware updates occasionally, now and then. Updating the firmware can only help, especially if you're looking for tune updates. This new firmware is just another update like any other. We've just noticed a few more PCM issues then normal, so we contacted SCT and worked with them for the past few weeks on this recent update.

Let me know if you guys have any other questions. This update can be found on SCT's website!

I just noticed an email from Steeda about this. Firmware updates are important. Here is the generic email but links may not work - used my phone to copy and paste.

SCT has released a new version of the X3 (PN: 3000) / SF3 (PN: 3015) device firmware - Version 1.2.142. This is a critical update that resolves issues found with prior versions of the X3 / SF3 firmware.

All SCT customers are urged to update their device(s) to this latest firmware revision using the SCT Auto Updater Software immediately. Dealers with X3 / SF3 devices in stock are urged to update their inventory to the firmware version 1.2.142 prior to selling these devices or should encourage the consumer to update the device prior to installing it on their vehicle.

Firmware Release Version: 1.2.142

Update Importance: Critical

Action to Take: Update all X3 / SF3 products immediately

Frequently Asked Questions

1 - I don't want to update my device. Can't I just back date the firmware to resolve the issue?

No. Back dating the firmware may cause additional issues and will not resolve the issue.

2 - My car / device are working fine. Should I update to the latest version?

Yes. This is a critical update and your device should be updated immediate to prevent any future issues.

3 - Where do I get the SCT Auto Updater Software? How do I install it?

The Auto Updater Software is available on SCT's website or Click Here to Download It Now.

The following instructions will explain how to install the software and use it to update your device. Click Here to Download the Instructions Now

Just a heads up. We've added a recomendation and instructions on how to update firmware to the tune loading instructions that we send out with every set of custom tunes. That, combined with the fact that our tuners are shipping with the latest firmware, should keep our customers from having any more issues!

Hope this helps!
