Custom Black Mesh Grille

I highly suggest the alluminum that the previous person posted. It does cost a little extra but is GREAT quality. One of my buddys used it with his project and I was jealous. It looks ALOT better and doesnt move as easily with the wind

Mine is a stock 10' grill that has been taken apart and modified, but it can be re assembled and have the stock look if I want that again.

But did you cut out the honeycomb and do the mesh? Do you have any close up pics?

Ok, understand what you saying now.. Just realized that the 05-09 cars have a 1 piece grill and the 10up cars have grills that can be disassembled.. So I believe you will have to cutout the honeycomb.

I have been working on it today. Cut the honeycomb out and was going to take out the fog holes too,but I think they give the frame support and it would be too flimsy without it.so for now they stay...so today the honeycomb got cut out,not easily, but its out.some bondo work was done and it's drying...we'll see how it comes out....thanks for the help anyways.

The "frame" of my grill was super flimsy also. Once the mesh was added it was much stronger. Plus on the bottom I added two of the factory plastic locking pieces to secure it to my bumper so it wouldn't scuff up the paint I will never see. Ill get pics of this in the AM.

This is strong enough for me to go 160 on the autobahn and the grill isn't an issue.

Here's another alternative I made, the grill is aluminum expanded metal. Start by making the front frame cut and file to fit, in from the outer edge about an inch. Make a duplicate with tabs sticking out from the outer edge. Bend the tabs and pop rivet in place. Cut the grill to fit and put the outer frame on top sandwiching the grill in between, good luck.

^^That looks sick! I'm tempted to try this but does anyone know of any good aftermarket mesh type grilles in black? Didn't shelby make one for some time? I've done some searching but haven't found too many results...

The mesh that I used looks very similar to the OP's but a little thicker. I think I could hit a bird or something fairly small and the grill would survive as long as the plastic it is attached to didn't give way.

I like yours a lot. It looks more like something you'd buy from AM or somethin.

Man I really want to try this.. But I don't want to get rid of my fogs! Is this mesh easy to form, like could you cut out around the stock Gt fogs and just overlay it?

You might be able to get away with that but you would want to secure the mesh at two or so points on the fogs so it doesnt scratch up the sides at high speed. You could also make a bracket and put them behind the mesh like the hidden fog light install in the DIY thread.

I've been thinking about doing this since it get stupid foggy in Germany and if I do I will be sure to post it up.

The mesh is really easy to form and takes only a few minutes to shape it how you would want it.
