So the vents are functional but the hood liner is shaped/molded in such a way to divert airflow and water to teh sides...

Any reasons I can't cut that part out? Not like the engine bay is water-proof anyway...

Functionaly is not going to hurt anything. Just cut straight or its going to be an eye sore when you open the hood.

Looks good. Can you give me some info? Where did you get the vents from? Has the structural integrity of the hood been maintained as ridges are usually used to strengthen parts? Any high speed lifting or vibration? Any reduction in engine temp?

Yes that's a stock hood on a '13. He's asking if he can open up those vents even more.

I'm asking if I can cut the hood liner...

I'm not sure if you can see it super well but it is shaped - it seems like it at least - to catch water falling in there...

Yes 100% OEM on the '13s - all of them have this style hood and it looks perfect with the new grill/nose.

I see what you mean, at that angle it's hard to tell, but the hood liner sits almost directly below the vents. I don't see an issue with trimming the hood liner back so the vents function better. You will get water pouring in there when it rains, or when you wash the car, but it shouldn't be a big deal.

I am semi-concerned about the water - my thought process was two-fold:

1) Car driving along, water shouldn't get into the vent holes really

2) Standing at light/parked car the liner will catch a certain amount of water before overflowing and dumping into engine bay anyway right? There are no channels for it to travel through which I can see...

Maybe I will Remove the liner entirely and see if there are some tubes or something hidden in there.

It's just like my GT500 hood vents, water runs directly into the engine bay. The same with 03 cobras.

I wouldn't bother, I don't see a improvement, flow wise, for air getting out. That area of the hood on the tops side is a low pressure area, there is not really a restriction for the hot air to get out. air is getting sucked/pushed out at speed anyway. increasing that hole below it won't improve flow any.

It will make a bigger mess in the engine compartment every time it rains. I dont see a reason to cut it out. I was glad to see the liner actually channels the water away from the motor as much as possible.

my .02 - Ford engineered the car with it like that for a reason, why, not sure, but I doubt you'd gain much.

as far as water, mehh, not a issue if it gets in there.

what could go wrong? This will be easy

getting this back on track - >

basically consensus is to not cut it which i'll agree with

i do however intended to take it off and peek under lining to see what is going on there

pics later on

Sad part is you're not joking. Let's see, fuel lines plus a flare under sounds like a great combination.

I'm unsubscribing from this.
