DD replacement Clutch?

Did some searching and couldn't seem to find what I was looking for or what I wanted to hear. lol.

The old red girl has 135K on her now and still on the stock clutch. Last time I was at the track I could not get the car to shift into second gear when leaving hard from the line. Well my little brother has put a lot of time and money into his 05 the last few months and wants a little brother vs brother race. I know the clutch in my 05 is in need of replacement so I'm here to ask if you guys are just replacing with an OEM replacement clutch or what? The car doesn't see the track but maybe once a year but I do drive the sh!t out of it. Also could it be that I need to replace my synchronizer to help with the shifting into 2nd under load problem? And what else should I replace while doing this job?

Your oem has gone 135k. I'd be inclined to replace it with another oem. Replace the slave too.

Do you have any big mod plans that would change the clutch requirements?

I'd recommend replacing the shitty plastic clutch line with a braided one while you have the tranny out.

The OEM clutch and PP are expensive compared to an aftermarket unit. As much as I miss the pedal feel from OEM clutch, I couldn't bring myself to drop twice as much money on it. I run an Exedy Mach 400 in my car and its been a good clutch. A little heavy in traffic, but overall I like it.

I kept my OE flywheel, but it was a bitch trying to find someone to turn it. It took me about 10 phone calls before I found a place. They only charged $25 though.

I have a stock flywheel that I took out of my car when I installed my Exedy clutch. If you want it to get it resurfaced before you tear the car apart its yours for the cost of shipping. Or you can see if newtakeoff.com has some left.

OEM is nice because it can take a lot of abuse and come back for me. Plus its not like leg pressing a fridge when you are sitting in traffic. You've put 135K on a clutch that took 100 shot and kept coming back for more, thats pretty damn good.

Exedy is the only aftermarket clutch I would consider for a daily driver that won't leave you with hip problems in traffic. The factory clutch is good and unless you are pushing tons of power through it will serve you well.

It's a quality piece. Holds over 400rwhp, lasts a long time, engages smoothly, and is easy to use.

My point is/was that if the stock clutch performed for 135k miles that indicates it's a winner imo. Most stock clutches aren't going to perform like that. Aftermarket will usually have less life. The cost isn't too bad if you shop for a take out or go to rockauto.

horsepower1 on ebay had a new take out with the pressure plate for $75 not too long ago.

Thanks Bruce... I think your right. I'm not pushing that much HP and I still need the driveability. I'll have to keep my eye for a replacement
