Missing my first deer season in 5 years this year and its KILLING ME. I'm deployed in Afghanistan so I guess you can say I traded white tail for Taliban, but even they have been scarce. I usually hunt Massachusetts public land, I usually save up all my vacation time and hit it hard for bow season and then dust off the mossberg and fill what ever tags I have left during gun season. Bow season I hunt for antlers but gun season if its brown its down. I dont like not having venison in the freezer. Although last year I struck out pretty bad, only saw one deer all year long and that was the first week of Bow season and I didnt wanna burn a tag on a tiny spike horn.

So who else is gearing up for deer season? Archery season starts October 1 here in Indiana. Cant wait to burn some vacation time to get out in the woods!

6.8 spc, I bought a Noveske 14.5" afghan and mounted a Leupold 2.5-8x36 scope. It should be a good rifle for 300 yards or less.

My one and only! Been on a dry spell for 8 years since I killed him in 2004! I was 13 when I killed him and have set my standards high ever since! They've been dropping each year though, taking a doe or two each year just doesnt cut it! Haha :)

It's scored 156 and 2/8 and was the 8th biggest for typical bucks taken in 2004! :) My trophy! :)

I'm getting pretty excited to get back out in the woods. I put out some of my food plots yesterday, so should have quite a few good spots to go sit when some colder weather rolls around.

Man I would love to do some food plots on our property! Me and my dad have just never gotten around to doing it! This will be my second season hunting with my bow so I'm anxious to get my first bow kill!

I had a couple nice plots growing but the drought wiped them out. I am hoping this rain we are getting now will save them. Food plots are great for bow hunting

Bow season starts tomorrow here and I'm stuck working opening weekend. Guess I'll be sitting in the woods on labor day. I'll probably wait til later in the season to take one though unless I see a monster

You could always hop down to ky and hunt. We use to hit a couple states after me, my dad and brother in law killed all our bucks but haven't done that lately

We went hog hunting quite a few years back but I don't remember where it was, I'll ask my dad where it was and see if he remembers. I live in the lower half of the state though so its quite a drive even if your on the border
