Doing Burnouts for pictures......

Dumb question, I know. But I have new tires coming for my 20's and I want to burn the old ones for a few pictures. Just wanted your advice on picture angles, or other picture taking tips. Also, do you guys put anything on the tires to really build up smoke, or just spin them? Also, for the final stupid question. My car is basically stock with 5 speed and 3.55's. Should I used first, or try and use 2nd for the burnout? I have actually never did a full-out hold the brakes burnout with this car Thanks, Jared

pour some bleach on the tires for a lot of smoke very easily. and first gear is fine, just make sure that your not bouncing off the rev limiter the whole time. try and control your foot on the pedal instead of just jamming it to the floor. see if you can pop the clutch and get the rpms back down to about 3k. as for the pics, i would say an angle shot like the one you currently have just a little more towards the front of the car and a lot lower. almost level with the bumper

Sweet thanks. I really like the way you picture looks. Its suposed to be pretty windy tomorrow, so I could always turn my car into the wind for a picture or two aswell.

I did some pictures for my buddy's '03 Cobra. He had a nice high-speed digital camera. As fast as you could press the button it would snap great shots. Highly recommend this kind of a camera if you can get your hands on one (borrow or buy).

He did his burnouts in a wide alley behind a closed Toys R Us. We brought a couple 5gal buckets of water and laid out a full bucket as a "water box." He did 2nd gear burn (since he had a water box) and sat in the water. Huge smoke. He also let the car roll a little and angled his front wheels in a few different positions so the as would slide and throw smoke in different directions. We got some really awesome shots from him moving the car around like he did while smoking the tires. Having the camera mobile and the car changing angles was perfect. We ended up not using the 2nd bucket of water because the Nitto's finally gave out and threw the tread off. Glad he had those things on spare GT rims. Rims got pretty chewed up when they touched ground.

Also, once you get the tires to break loose, it doesn't take a lot of RPMs to keep the burnout going. Pour some water, roll into it. Rev it up, dump the clutch (DON'T ride it!). Once the tires break loose, left foot brake, just enough to keep it in position, don't jam on the brakes or you'll eat up the rear brakes. The most important thing to get is someone who knows how to shoot a camera - A good photographer can know off several angles and dozens of shots. Good luck.

haha yah there really should be no reason the clutch would get burned up unless he rides it. Especially with water those tires should pop loose no problem.

I have two favorite angles myself.


1) a low, wide angle from the rear.

2) A low angle from the front.

Jacked these images from a google search. I recommend doing a "Mustang Burnout" google image search and looking through all the various photos.

I've done 3 shoots now where we did big burnouts, and all we did was get the ground good and wet with a hose for a few minuets first. I literally was in about a half inch of water and I was able to smoke the shit out of the tires easily at around 4000 rpm without being too hard on anything at all.

Don't need bleach, that's just stupid as bleach was the 'vht' of the old days. Just lot's of water and keep the rpms down and you can do monster smoke shows easily. The trick is LOT's of water.

yeah a friend of mine once told me to use bleach to make the tires a bit sticker and I was uhmmm .... lol

I just don't like the thought of bleach getting on my wheels and slung up on my paint. Someone once told me tranny fluid worked good. I dunno about this one either,lol

The bad thing is, Ill be using just a 10megapixel cheapo kodak camera. So I dunno how in depth I can get with picture settings.
