On my way home from shopping today, taking off from a light I hear loud clunking coming from below the shifter. Pull over and I couldn't see anything. I jacked it up on the side of the road to see if it was safe. Turns out I lost a bolt at the joint. Grease was everywhere. There is a bracket the same as the one pictured but on the other side that was smacking with each rotation. I'm assuming I should just get a nice new aluminum one-piece. How. Hard is it to swap it out? I'm not lowered so do I still need to worry about pinion angle?

Here is a pic of the bracket that is still good so you know what I'm talking about.

Its the piece with the two bolts.

definitely upgrade. it wouldn't be worth just putting another stocker in, though im sure you could get one for the cost of shipping. I would give you mine if I was close

Those brackets are simply locking tabs to keep the bolts from coming out, as well as to distribute the clamping load of the bolts. Did it break or did a bolt just come out?

Any grease is inside that rubber boot.
Did it tear open?

The driveshaft swap is fairly easy. The front bolts have a torque of 7x ft lbs, imo that's the hardest part of it. It's also a good time to put a ds loop in.

Well I'm going to lift it up again tomorrow to take a really good look to see if I can just fix it. I would rather not drop the 700+ on a new driveshaft if I don't have to.

I don't think your shaft broke, I think you lost a bolt and a few got loose. When those got loose it allowed that metal retainer thing to swing out due to centrifugal force and smack stuff and make noise!

I think so too, but I could be wrong lol. Then again I'm still rocking the stocker 2 piece that's a piece of junk.

Broke dafuk down
I always set mine but DSS says you do not need to set pinion angle using their new style shaft. To set the angle if you so desire (to optimize traction) you will need an adjustable UCA obviously.

DSS is worth every penny. The only one I recommend other than the guys that need custom

I just installed the shaftmasters one that is $599...which to my knowledge is the cheapest 1 piece aluminum out there, and it runs flawless with no vibrations and its a DIRECT bolt in with no weird adapter flange where you have to remove the factory pinion flange......

BTW I have a perfect condition stock one you can have. Just pay me the shipping.

Just got under there and nothing looks broken. The grease looks like it came out of the bolt hole. I was able to take another bolt out by hand and at least 2 more look to be working their way out too. Going to fastenal and buying 6 new ones and putting it back together. I'm just glad it happened from a stop light and not on the highway.
