So I had my car inspected the other day for the NYS inspection and it failed emissions. I'm pretty sure its due to the tune, I'm running a 89 Performance tune from Bamachips right now.
So do I have to get a really conservative tune to pass emissions?

I've been reading through some threads and it might be that in the tune Doug has the O2 sensors turned off. It states "CAT & O2S NOT READY" on my inspection print out. But now that Doug is with AM, Im not sure if I will get a updated tune because I email them a week ago to update my tune for new tire size and have not got a response since

AM said they will honor all Dougs old tune owners. you just need to get in AM database using the website. I ordered a bama tune over 3 years ago and i was able to get into AMs free tunes for life program

Yup, I talked to them earlier and they directed me to the sct.americanmuscle.com site where I put in my info for an update.

I passed NYS inspection with my O/R H. The tune you have, if I had to guess, by-passes the rear o2 sensors, and they will not set which is why you failed. I bought a set of plug in MIL eliminators from a 96-04 2V, put the car back to stock, drove it 80 miles to let the monitors set, and it passed. I have talked to people who have had luck with the plug in MIL's and others who haven't had the same luck. From my own personal experience in my 06 they work. You will need to have your tune adjusted so that the rear o2's can set if you want to pass OBD-II

I just went thriugh this with NY emmisions testing.Your tune has the readiness monitors turned off in the tune.Have your tuner turn these back on and you should pass no problem. You will have to drive the car about a half hour after updating tune to reset the monitors.
