I assume this is tech as the threads I saw when I searched were in this sub-forum as well.

Anyhow, I was on my way home just a little while ago and the car died on the interstate and went into fail safe mode. I tried to roll start the car considering I was traveling 75mph and didn't want to be stuck on the shoulder of a bridge. That didn't work, but I was able to get off the road safely.

The reason I felt I needed a new thread was none of the others mentioned anything about a "low oil pressure" message, which I did receive. Honestly, it scared the piss out of me at first. After I got pulled over I was able to turn the car off, wait a minute and then it fired up as if nothing had happened. When I got home I checked the oil level and it was fine. I'm at school and my tuner is at home or I would have checked for codes. Is it possible the oil pump is going out on a mostly stock car?

Mods: JLT cai and Brenspeed tune & off-road H pipe. Both have been on the car for a few years, so they aren't new.

Any ideas? Thanks folks.

It's not likely the oil pump is going out. It either fails, or works. You could have an issue where you're losing oil pressure somewhere causing a low pressure situation.

In the future, to reset the fail safe, turn ignition off for 5-10 seconds, then restart and it should clear.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind should it happen again. Wouldn't it take a hole somewhere to cause a loss of pressure though? I don't run a catch can, and I thought these cars were notorious for high oil pressure?

This happened to me one time almost a year ago. The warning tone and low oil message popped up while the car stalled doing about 60. I thought the motor was gone but the car fired right up like nothing had happened. I had just turned the ac to max when it happened, probably a coincidence.

I think the connection between the oil sender and wire was briefly interrupted. There was alot of oil vapor residue all over the bottom of the motor which turned out to be coming from a mismatch between my front cover and mach 1 block. The connection was a little loose too. It hasn't happened since.

The question I have is does the car go into failsafe if low oil pressure is detected or is the warning tone and low oil pressure message a result of the failsafe condition?
