Finally wart free!

Finally decided that I can't stand the faux gas cap anymore and went with a RTR panel. The fit and finish is outstanding and I should have done that a long time ago.

FWIW, the wart definitely wasn't round. After cutting it with a 5" hole saw, I have to trim off the rest of the wart with a Dremel and a cutting disk. The rest of the install was a simply peel and stick.

Isn't the emblem just on with 2 sided tape? Not really needed to cut the deck lid.

Nope. There are alignment holes behind the faux gap cap. If you use something like the RTR panel that follows the contour of the trunk, the wart have to go.

Heck, now I have room for about 300RWHP worth of stickers back there...

That looks sexy! I wish they made something similar for the 05-09 cars. They only have carbon fiber ones to my knowledge.

When I took mine off it was with a heat gun and some fishing line and it came off. Just had to get rid the left over adhesive. I am also confused about the hole.

I borrowed this picture from another thread to show the trunk lid under the faux gas cap. Holes and all:

Since the RTR panel fits flush against the contour of the trunk lid, the bump have to be cut out. There are other trunk panel that doesn't require the cutting, but I don't like the way they looks.

Because there is a protrusion where the emblem goes. In order to get that flat you have to remove the protrusion

yea our decklids are flat, the newer ones have that curve so it needs a bump sticking out and flat that the emblem mounts to.

so how many alcoholic drinks did you need before you had the balls to dremel your truck lid?

American Muscle bought RTR after CDC failed to renew their contract so product should be available soon according to AM.

None actually. The faux gas cap have always been my pet peeve and I wanted to tear it off as soon as I took delivery of the car. But the holes and metal hump kept me from doing anything.

I've seen pictures of the RTR panel, but didn't get a chance to see one up close to see how well they fits until recently. Once I was committed, I was told CDC no longer makes them and it took another 2 months to hunt down one of the last RTR panel.

Took about an hour from start to finish. The toughest part was peeling off the faux gas cap. Then to work up the courage to actually punch the 5" hole. The rest is easy...
