Front jounce bumper orientation

I just bought some FRPP units - prior I had the large diamter part facing up and the tapered portion down - is this correct?

Asked ford racing, they referred me to the instructions - which are illegible.

Do the FRPP units look different than the OEM units?

No they are the same. We bought a set and were disappointed. But from the looks on what ive seen in the aftermarket oem jounce bumpers, all they do is trim them half the drop.

I wish I knew which way these go, am flipping them. I found instructions for a set on maximum motosports, they say "Install a new bumpstop, with the flat face oriented towards the strut top."

What the hell does that mean... the top of the strut body? The top of the strut rod? The taper on them seems to match the steel washer in the dust boot. Since they are marginally shorter in this orientation, I'm putting them in this way this time to give me a little more travel. Shouldn't blow up.

Flat side facing up to the strut mount is what I would take it as. The bump stop is going to get pushed up all the way on the strut rod the first time it's fully compressed and it should pretty much stay there. Then strut body is going to come up and meet it every time you compress the struts enough. You probably want the domed part to face the strut body so it cushions gradually.

Flat side up. Just look at the surface area of the contact points. Big flat area on the strut mount vs the smaller top of the strut body, and match the bumper accordingly.

And to be perfectly honest, I don't think it really makes a difference in the grand scheme of things.

the upper contact point inside the dust boot has a tapered profile which very nearly matches the rounded end of the bumper.

The surface on my strut body is flat, very nearly matches the flat side of the bumper.

The text on the bumper is able to be read when it's rounded side up (LOL...) and also you get that extra fraction of travel.

I agree, doesn't matter much. That said, I do like to try to do what's correct whenever possible.
