So Saturday while at mustang week my throttle body decided to go. A little history. I bought it used from a member here and he also bought it from someone here. Both of these members are very reputable and I believe them when they say they never had it opened at any point.

The car wasn't running perfectly Friday night. It would occasionally go straight 22.4 on my wide band. I would turn the car off and start it back up and it would be fine. Saturday my alternator decided to go so after I replaced the alternator and buttoned everything back up the car threw a p2104 and p2112 code. I tried clearing them and they still stayed. I pulled the throttle body apart and discovered the issue. (Sorry for not having pictures of the actual piece that failed but I pulled apart my stock one to day to help explain, someone mentioned tossing this up to let you guys know as I did not want to pull apart my 62mm again.)

Motor side of the TB

I pulled the little cover

Pulled the motor and housing cover

Here is the spring I was referring to this is where it gets funky.

The top ring of this spring was in a pretty big egg/oval shape vs being a circle as pictured.

On the picture below you can see the red dash. The top spring I referred to in the last photo was twisted underneath this red dash roughly. Possibly 1 higher or lower. So my guess is due to the spring getting caught it wasn't allowing the butterflies to open and close properly causing me to run lean and re tach after I turned the car off.

I'm curious to see if any one else has had a possible issue? Or even a possible answer to why this could of happened. Like I said the motor side has never been opened so I also don't see a need for any to mess other the spring. I also just wanted to let you guys know of this failure since I have never heard of the FRPP throttle body failing.

I have the car back together luckily a vendor at MW had a extra throttle that was damaged I could pull the spring from. The codes also went away after the new spring was put in.

This is not an FRPP throttle body. The FRPP throttle body is a polished unit from what I remember. Do you mean a GT500 throttle body?

Either way, grab a take off unit and replace the spring and rheostat and put it back together.

Oh LOL. Ok. Well if OP wants another throttle body let me know I have a few laying around if you need to take them apart for any parts you need.

Kevin, read the text. There's more info there than just the pictures. Being an ex Ford tech you may have some valuable input if you bother actually reading the post.

My car is good an currently running. I swapped the spring with another throttle body. I just did not want to pull apart my frpp throttle body again. I just wanted to post this up for people to be aware of the incident and to see if anyone has and ideas of why this could of happened.
