I have been weighting buying a gt500 and I have been curious lately about what the future holds for the gt500. I have searched the forum and havent found anything solid yet but does anyone know what the future of the GT500 is and if they are going to put maybe a 6.2 V8 in there anytime soon? Anyone with any insight or knowledge? I know its far off, but i am just curious...thanks in advance.

Im just curious because a lot of speculation going around. Especially with the Code RED gt500 with the TT's...I just am not sure if they are going to let the Gt500 go out with a bang or what the story is on it. LOL on the 2.0 ecoboost :p

Kind of off topic but I would rather see the SVT team produce the cobra again and Ford get rid of the gt500. Although im sure it will never happen.

I really don't know how to respond to that.. Understand that this is coming from someone who has owned multiple SVT Cobras, both SBF and modular. Why would you want them to discontinue the car most of us have dreamed of, since we were old enough to know what a Mustang was?

Well that all depends on if they re-up the contract coming up right? is it 2014 that its up? Not sure...but why I ask is I am looking to purchase a gt500 and just curious if its a wiser decision to buy a 5.4 gt500 than a 5.0 gt?

:wtf: You say it like it's the same car that was around in the 60's. Do people really fill thier fantasies of having a 67' by buying a 2007-2011 gt500?

I'm only 30, so not really. Plus, the new Gt500 would kick that car's ass and I say that having a deep respect for the 60s muscle cars, my father still owns a 1969 Mach1, that he got for graduation. Since I was in my teens (mid 90s), I have dreamed of a factory supercharged Mustang that displaced better than 302ci. Ford's special vehicle teams taunted us concept after concept (super stallion), while Camaros and T/As were readily available, cheap to mod and even fairly decent off the showroom floor. What did we have as our base? An impotent answer to GMs muscle... We had cars that produced anywhere from 200-250hp (GTs) and from 240(5.0)-300hp(4.6) if you sprung for a Cobra. I love the new Shelby and what it has done for the Mustang brand and Ford.

Honestly yes. That's why all these names have made their way back. People had them and dreamed about them, now they want them again, except with modern technology. Boss, Mach, GT500, Hemi, etc. They may not have a real association with the originals, but people care more about the name and what it currently does than how close they really are to the originals.

I get the desire to have the name and all that but imo I would rather see a new cobra then the gt500 be around for 10 more years. If the gt500 stays around for years and years won't it lose some of that mystique about it beacuse so many people would have one?

My little ecoboost comment was not entirely in jest. I really do think we are seeing 1970 all over again. With the CAFE standards getting ready to start putting some serious hurt on the auto industry we are going to HAVE to start seeing less CID in vehicles.

There is no way to get 40MPG out of a 6.2 liter engine in a Mustang, much less 30MPG. Not without some really weird cylinder deactivation technology. You can however get there with a 2.0 liter engine.

Even if Ford can sell 95% Focus, Fusion and other small cars they will not be able to sell V8 muscle to the masses like they have been to the other 5%. At least not at a reasonable price.

Answer to the OP? I wouldn't wait. Go get you a new 2012 GT 500 and take good care of it. Drive the fuck out of it and enjoy! It may get put in the "obsolete muscle car" pile by a 6.2 GT500 in a year or two, or it may get replaced by the new Ecoboost Mustang GT2.0! It's all in the future....and by 12/21/2012....none of us may be here!

I would not be surprised if the next GT500 powerplant was an Ecoboost 5.0. The 6.2 iron block is too big and heavy to go into a production S197 at this point.

True, the new laws in 2014 or 2015 say something about a requirement of 35 MPG average but i hear there are plenty of loopholes in those laws. so 200k fiesta's that get 45 mpg and about 10k mustangs with 20mpg...weird shit like that. You guys are pretty much right on with what i have been hearing about the future of it, just a lot of uncertainty and speculation. the 6.2 would also be to heavy, i agree, but nothing like a bigger engine :p.

That's unimportant to me. I just want it to be good looking, fast and I don't really care what they call it.
