Guys,

Out of the most popular positive displacement (PD) superchargers (Edelbrock, Whipple, Roush TVS, Saleen), which adds the most weight? Appearance wise, the Roush just looks heavier as a complete unit, with the Whipple a close second. I've read the E-Force is pretty damn heavy too. The Saleen looks like the baby of the group. Has anyone ever weighed these systems?

I've been considering a PD supercharger, however I'm looking for the most efficient system with the most HP potential, that doesn't add a significant amount to the front end.

Thanks,
Mitch

Lol, seriously?

I cant see one weighing too much more than any other, so it really shouldnt be a factor in deciding which one you want imo.

They all add weight, which u will never notice because of the gain in hp.

If u are serious about saving a few pounds and going with one kit over another because of weight i guess you could call all the respective pd blower makers and ask for the shipping weight of their kits.

Dont forget to add weight for the super charger oil and coolant for the intercooler.

As far as which is the most effiecient, is debatable, they all are going to get you to the 450rwhp range on 10lbs.
There are quite a few threads on here for all that info, just searcgh in the tech section.

I know, I'm really splitting hairs here deciding on the best system. :headscratch:

Honestly, if the Whipple and the Roush are pretty close in performance, but the Roush weighs in about 50lbs heavier, then yes I would choose the lighter of the two systems.

Yeah, most of these systems are pretty comparable as far as performance. This is why I comparing systems based on other factors ~ weight being one of them.

Well u are back where u started then, as they are comparable as far as weight lol

Give or take a 50lb difference ;)

If i was going that route my choice would have been a stage 3 saleen.

I really like the Saleen, but from what I read it's limited in power when compared to the others. I've been looking at the new SMS charger as well, but haven't seen a good review on it yet.

I'm anxious on buying a supercharger, but my fear is that as soon as I buy one 2 months down the road a new system will come out that will be much better ~ similar to what happened to me with my 2010 GT. I bought the 2010 GT back in July, and now recently Ford announces the 2011 GT with a new 5.0/32V motor. Just my luck...:buttkick:

I can't tell you the actual weight difference of the car since adding the Roush TVS, but I did take some before and after pictures of the ride height at the front...

Before...

After...

My suspension is Roush Stage 2. As you can see, the difference is minimal, about 12 - 13mm. It would be quite difficult to work out the weight difference of each kit accurately based on shipping weight, beacause you would also have to factor in the weight of the no longer required stock components that are removed during install.

Hope this helps...

Andy.

Shipping weight on my Saleen kit was 128 pounds. I'm going to estmate a fairly similar drop in front end height, which is why I went with the full BMR front suspension and relaocated the battery. I'm pretty close to being back to where it started heightwise.

A edelbrock eforce with gt500 pumps was right at 135lbs shipped to the door. That was everything that goes along with a stage 2 kit from Brenspeed.

The blower alone weighs 51.5 lbs without a pulley. I had to ship mine back to Whipple a few weeeks ago. Then add the manifold, heat exchanger etc. it may be close to that but to me 110 seems on the high side, it could be though.

I have to agree with this. When I installed my Saleen, I didn't have weight numbers, but 60# would be about right for the blower. The HE and intercooler pump are the next items that weigh the most. The remaining items (hoses, plastic intercoolor reservoir, alt bracket) are all light. I could see 100# total for the Saleen and that is with the 10# (1 gallon+) of HE/intercooler liquid.

I also think most kits are going to be within 10#s.

I weighed the car before and after, 110 lb. difference. Keep in mind that you are actually removing some stock items from the car as well.

I wouldn't have a problem buying any you listed, though I would do more reading on future Saleen support and maybe some user feedback on the Edelbrock (I haven't seen that many people running them). I know JDM had some good deals on the Saleen Shakers and Edelbrock on Black Friday - maybe other deals are coming.

Hard to go wrong with any of them really.

Hard to argue with the scale, huh. The minimal weight difference between the kits would be the last thing I would consider.

Atleast we added more horsepower than weight.

Those numbers sound about right to me too. I measured before/after on my car and saw the same 1/4" drop after installing the Whipple H.O. The difference between the kits will probably be relatively insignificant.

If you don't mind me asking, what was wrong with the blower?

Yeah I'm leaning more on either the Whipple or the Roush for now. I'm going to wait a couple of months before making a final decision. Just gonna wait and see what else may be offered. I'm hoping for a price drop on the current 3V blowers now that the 2011 GT 5.0 is coming soon. :highfive:
