gotta questions guys, hopefully u can help me out. i got a 06 3v to drop in my 03 gt, i want to stay n/a and looking to get around 350 hp.i got the engine torn apart just to make sure the engine was good. i need to take it to get washed as well.

i am gonna get some stage 2 cams, my questions is, should i replace the pistons ? or should i just keep the stock ones on.

You don't need to replace the pistons at all, unless of course something is wrong with them. 350rwhp is attainable, but don't expect too much more than that without heads and bigger cams. Many guys on here are pushing 500rwhp with stock internals so I'm sure you'll be just fine.

You're dropping an '06 motor in an '03 and you've got the engine torn down, which sounds like you are doing the work yourself, and you need to ask if you should change the pistons? Really?

Please explain why you would ask a question like this.............quite troubling that you are that far into a build and don't feel comfortable in your "judgement" on such an issue.:screw::dead2:

coming from new edges, i can see how he'd have some questions about the 3v's. not too much of a stretch. give him a break

He's putting the 3v motor in a New Edge, why would you have to inquire about changing the pistons?

Pistons inside of motor, motor inside of car. I still don't understand the inquiry.:sigh1:

After re-reading his question I "think" he's reserved about the stock pistons because of a cam change, but even that has me puzzled as to why the piston change inquiry....LOL

he did mention getting 350rwhp, so maybe he was inquiring about upping the comp ratio to get there... idk man. he just asked a simple question and i think he already got his answer

I'm really not trying to bust his balls, as I may learn from this inquiry as well.

He has the same exact thread going over on modded mustangs and stated,

"Sweet, ill check it out. I really just want around 350 hp or so. I dont want anythig to big. I will not get the stroker kit. I dont plan on going more thenn 400 hp. Thanks again for ur responses."

"yeah, i dont wanna put a tubro or any other type of crap in it. so the rods and pistons then. whats the comp ratio stock? what are a good set of pistons and rods? thanks for ur repl."

I'm with Klassic on this one about being curious as to how he can have the mechanical skill to take the engine apart and put it in an older car, yet question the quality of stock pistons...

Or maybe he just doesn't want to put what is probably a used, dirty engine in his car...

Is it really that hard for you to give the guy the benefit of the doubt?

Yea "bro", just spray that motor down with some Windex and use a garden hose to clean all that dirt out.

Why even crack the motor apart? You should have just pulled the pan and valve covers and checked everything. Now your going to spend another $200 - $300 to "correctly" reassemble a stock motor.

Maybe he will take the motor to a car wash. It is weird that he can take it apart but doesn't know wether to keep the stock pistons or not.

This plus the fact that he wants to get it 'washed' should make him second-guess his ability to reassemble the motor and make it and the electronics/wiring all work in an older car.

It really wouldn't be all that hard to do. Curious how the ECU will react without the transmission harnesses plugged in but the gauges should work with his stock non-hydraulic 3650

Yeah but what about someone who is wondering how basic bolt-ons will react with stock pistons?
