I'm at the part where you de-pin the green/violet wire and the blue/yellow wire from the old fuel pump connector. Did that, fine.

Question is where to do these plug in? Instructions say after these wires are connected, the green/violet should line up with a red/yellow and the blue/yellow should line up with a black wire.

Problem is my kit has no red/yellow wire or black wire. Instead, there are just another pair of wires the same colors as the ones I just de-pinned.

Let me show you....

Here's a pic from somebody else's install:

With this connector orientation, this guy has green/violet pinned in on the right and blue/yellow pinned in on the left.

So I did that. Here's my picture:

I pined my green/violet and blue/yellow into the new connector the same way the guy in the 1st pic above did. But I don't know if this is correct or now, especially since the color codes on the other side of the connector do not match the instructions.

Since Ford has changed the colors and the new colors happen to exactly match the colors on the stock wires, you'd think maybe the green/violet should line up with green/violet maybe blue/yellow should line up with blue/yellow. However, I've got mine connected, again same as the guy in the 1st pic in this post, and as you can see the colors don't line up the way that I just hypothesized.

So what's correct? Anyone????

Another question - which comes from the fact that Ford did not label a single connector in this kit.

Here are my fuel pump driver connections.

connectors.jpg

I assume I did this right. Notice that Ford spliced the harness connector in half way between both fuel pump driver connectors. This adds to confusion since the harness it connects to is closest to the driver side pump driver.

At least the relay was closer to one side. Since instructions say to put the relay on the driver side, the connector closest to the relay is the one I connected to the driver side pump driver.

Hard to see in this pic, but the connector that I plugged into the passenger side fuel pump driver is the side that has the power wire (that will run to the fuse box) spliced into it.

This "looks" like it ought to be correct to me. But since nothing is labeled I'd like your opinions.

Are these the instructions you are useing ? Useing this you have to go by the numbers and the connectors on the bottom .In pics 3 and 4 I think your wires in the center of your fuel pump connector are reversed. The light green and violet should be in pin 5 on the bottom and the light blue and yellow should be in pin 2 on the top . Also I think your other connector is reverse as well in pic 2 . The colors should line up. If you look at it again your wires are opisite of the other photo.

You are right that blue/yellow came from Ford plugged into pin 5 on the new fuel pump connector. And that green/violet came from Ford plugged into pin 2.

Now - what makes you think the blue/yellow should be in pin 2 instead of pin 5 and than green/violet should be in pin 5 instead of pin 2?

BTW...Jim Jr also told me the colors should line up.

Hey...if the fuel pump connector has the colors backwards and I've also got the re-pinning backwards (colors not matched up) - that means 2 wrongs make a right and I've got it all hooked up right, correct?

After talking with Jim Jr, I flipped my re-pinned green/violet and blue/yellow wires from what is shown here.

wires.jpg

So now blue/yellow lines up with blue/yellow and green/violet lines up with green/violet.

And.....works like a champ. We have engine start. We have fuel gauge. Good to go...

LOL In the end, my pins are pinned backwards from the way One Eyed Willy pinned his. I'm gonna bet it works no matter how you pin it.

I work for a company who makes some automotive stuff. We are required to design stuff to handle all kinds of install snafus - stuff getting shorted to ground or battery, stuff connected backwards, all kinds of crap.

Look at the diagram I posted for pin 5 and pin 2 on the connector in the bottom left corner . Pin 5 on the bottom is the red they refer to and pin 2 is the black. Follow the diagram now from the new fuel pump plug to the existing fuel pump plug , rd/ye #5 goes to old pin #4 wich is lg/vt and # 2 on the new plug wich is black goes to pin #2on the old plug wich is lb/ye . This should only efect the fuel level sending unit and fuel gauge and I dont think will effect the performance of the pump.
