My car has shaker 500 and I would like to upgrade the speakers in the doors. What are my options in terms of woofer or speaker combinations for the doors (like the Shelby kicker system). I have seen guys use 8 inch subs and 5x7 speakers, I have also seen people just use components speakers. Which is the best route and with what type of speaker. Any help would be great.

All depends on what you listen to and how much power you plan on pushing through them. Are you planning on changing out the head unit as well?

If you are just looking to upgrade your speakers and not do anything else to the system, then go with a descent mid-level 5X7 coax for the upper door speakers and a slim 8" mid grade woofer. No sense in putting big bucks in to the speakers if you intend on leaving the rest of the system factory.

I want to change out the whole system. I just don't know what to do with the front speakers. I plan on having new head unit and rear speakers with supporting amplifiers to get the best out of the system. But this will not be for show events. I was planning on sticking with all pioneer stuff.

I'm a big Pioneer fan as well. I went with the TS-D1720C Premier series components up front. I initially had a set of TS-A6871R 3-way speakers in the rear, but have determined that they aren't needed, so no rear stage for me.

I also have a AVH-4000DVD as a head unit. Love it.

I did end up using RF equipment for my amps and subs, but that was more of an asthetic choice (plus I like RF).

I used to have the 3 way's up front and while they sounded great, the components are SOOOOOOO much better, and very inexpensive.

Why not go front: 6x8 since they are the same as 5x7 and a slim 8" and back: cut the mounting hole to fit 6x9s...that would offer some good sound.
