I once had my car towed and the tow truck driver was super cool. He literally spent 15 minutes getting my car on the truck (flatbed) without scraping the bumper. It was a combination of raising/lowering/angling/retracting the flatbed part mixed with some winching and releasing. He somehow managed to get it on without any body part touching the floor. I was impressed.

Next time you need a tow (hopefully never), tell the operator you want a flatbed because your car has low clearance. They'll relay it to the truck driver usually so at least he'll know in advance. I've had some be annoyed by it and others find it really fun--I guess it's a break in the monotony for them.

man this just reminded me of comming back from a SF roadtrip, we took my friends Prius...what we didnt know was that he decided to NEVER do maintanance on the damn thing too, so it completely died on the way home, right on the blind spot of the grapevine in CA. We waited forever trying to get a tow and finally he came, the Prius was DEAD, no power or anything so he couldnt get it on the flat bed, propped it up and by the time we got home the rear bumper probably shaved off by 2 inches, and was hanging on by a thread.

That's pretty terrible, and on the grapevine no less.
