How the hell do I bolt these wheels on?

Okay, I know this is a total noobie question, and I feel like a total tard, but how the hell do I bolt these Race Star wheels on?

I have never used wheels that required cam washers before and I am screwing the wheels up. When I went to put my street wheels back on, I could see that the washers where not in any of the seats correctly and the wheels are now a tad scraped up. It was very hard to get the lugs off too.

So, let the flaming begin... As long as I get an answer on an easier and correct method, I would appreciate it.

That is what I did, but the washers did not set up in the seat correctly. That's why I posted the question. I am tempted to have them tacked into place.

Thats some of the issues that is keeping me from getting a set. You know with people having issues with lug nuts and the threads getting messed up.I hope you get it figured out.

I would not worry about the Lug issue, if you clean the threads before you install the wheels you will not have a problem,
the Lug bolts are so long and so much thread that if any of them gets buggered you are hosed. I will be putting a dab of anti-seize inside to help lube them.

marcspaz do you have the centric rings like the ones above on the picture?if you do then i dont see how you are having problems with them.the only thing i can tell you is to do the lugs at 6 oclock 1 at a time,it will make it really easy.

Man, the guys at Race Star Industries are awesome. If you are thinking about getting these wheels from any of our vendors... I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I called Race Star and told them I was having problems mounting the wheels and wanted to buy some hub rings. They told me that the hub rings were not 100% needed and gave me guidance on the correct method to center the wheels up.

I told him that I was disabled and it's hard for me to manage the back wheels by myself, and I bought the rings anyway. Mike sent me all 4 rings for $10. He invited me to call anytime for support and thanked me for being a customer.

Excellent product, very friendly, not trying to milk every penny, great customer service... I'm impressed.

Mike stated to hold the wheel flush on the hub and start the lug a 6 o'clock first. Make it tight enough that the wheel holds flush to the hub, but is still able to move if you try to shift its position on the hub.

Once the bottom lug is set, without turning the wheel, hand tighten the lug at 2 o'clock. Once that is done, the wheel should be centerd. Continue the cross pattern by then doing the 8, 4, and 10 o'clock lugs all to hand tight. Check for clearance and torque to specs.

Spinning the wheel so the lug you are working is at the bottom helps the cam washer settle, but cause shifting on the hub.

I second this. They sent me the hub rings and the thin walled socket in two days. Hell the shipping cost me more than the parts. Thanks for the install tips also!

Well, I got the hub centric rings. They came in while I was at the track. Man if they showed Friday, my day would have been much better. Now, keep in mind, I am disabled. Manual tasks take much more effort for me compared to someone in good health, but good Lord did those rings help.

Track side with an impact wrench, it took me an hour to get a 4 wheels on properly and centered. Today in the driveway, I tried the rings. 20 minutes for all 4 wheels... including jack time. Much better!

If you guys get these wheels, I highly recommend you spend the extra $10 total for 4 rings.

i got the rings and it still took me at least an hour total to get 2 on!

I had one lug that was a bit finiky and didnt want to go one easily, just tired a different one and it went right on.

I have this issue with my Jegs Sport star cast wheels. Hub centric rings would help me out alot, but instead i bought 3/4 Hex lug nuts to make the gap smaller between the lugnuts and the wheel. I was using a 13/16 socket and it would get stuck at times. So the 3/4 socket works fine and i dont spend 2 very frustrating hours trying to get wheels snug against the hub of the car.

I thought BBR sells the Racestars with Hub-centric rings...

When i tlaked to Mike about these wheels awhile back he told me you need hub-centric rings. Our hub on the car measure in at 70.6mm, and the wheel bore of the Racestars i believe is at 78 or 76mm. I can see if you do the 6 o'clock postion that the centric rings wouldnt really be needed but i believe with the centric rings it would make the job go alot faster and less stressful as you stated.

All in all, Mike at Racestar Industries is a very helpful guy and will get you anything you need. He helped me out.

After farting around one Friday evening with the rear wheels for about an hr I seemed to fall into that same procedure they recommended to you, Marc. Problem though by that time I had buggared up two lugs and studs. Also, running the lug threads down with penetrating oil helped clean the threads up a bit. Never inspected the supplied Lug nuts for excess coating. Sound like a QA problem. I might give'em a call and get two more studs and lugs.

I know they're just wheels however, there should be an installation/instructions that come with these wheels setups if there can be issues. I was told there was instructions when purchased and had to call BBR for clarification....com'on guys(vendors).

I ahve a feeling that these lug and hub centris ring kits will be worth a dozen or so cycles of installing and removing before we will need to order up new kits. Those washers appear to distort more and more each time you torque them down. Now if you install them and leave'em on the car all the time they would last longer.

However, they do look great on the car and folks...especially car folks compliment them all the time.
