Hey guys I have a quick question about my brakes. I bought my brembos used and put drilled and slotted rotors with brake best ceramic pads from oriellys. My problem is when my brakes heat up they SQUEEL and HOWL so loud it can be heard from a a block away. WTF gives? Is it the shitty ceramic pads? I put caliper grease in between the pads and shims and the back of the rotor.. Should I take the damn things apart and try to put grease on top of the pad shims? Ideas? thanks

You could try rtv instead of grease. It absorbs the harmonics. It's worked for me in the past.

What kind of pads did you put in? And yes you should put grease between the shims and pistons. Any metal to metal surface is going to squeal under the vibration. I haven't ever used RTV for this, so I can't speak to that... I always use brake lube from Autozone.

Well I just took the pads out and put synthetic caliper grease on every contact point, in between the shims, the back of the shims, the pistons in the caliper, the caliper where the pad touched, the pins, and the bracket that holds the pads in place and it still squeals. What are some good daily driver pads that will not squeal? I have brand new Powerstop rotors on the car, What were the factory pads? carbon ceramic? Should I do factory or Hawk HPS?

Can you take a picture of the top of the caliper, where the clip is holding in the brakes. My one guess is that the retainer clip is in backwards.

The clip for the retainer should be in like this: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-W3fUhKjRnc0/TpdNwRlBnJI/AAAAAAAAE6g/e4LXu5CUkgQ/s800/IMG_9887.JPG

Specifically, ensure that the part of the retainer clip faces in to the rotor. It should be in there pretty damn tight. If you put it in the wrong way it will stay in there and rattle and rub against the rotor, and will not keep the pad from vibrating at all.

Also, have you bed the brakes in yet?

It should be right next to the grease. IIRC the brand I used is CRC. Haven't had to use it for a long time, like 13 years. Maybe it isn't sold anymore?

The only time I've had to use it was when I didn't install the shims correctly. It absorbs the vibrations. No vibrations, no noise.

I just took the things apart again and used this red silicone stuff Im pretty sure it was CDC, still squeaks when they are warm. I know the brackets are on them right so Its just the pads. I guess I will have to try the OEM ones and see what happens.

Are rotors glazed over? You can try scuffing them with sand paper

I use Hawk HPS pads on the street and Raybestos ST-43 pads at the track. I have had no squeal from the HPS, they are quiet. The Raybestos sound like a freight train coming to a halt.

This is all on stock Brembo rotors. I do not know if the slotted and drilled rotors are the reason you are having squealing issues.
