You could try cutting down the tube that was "ramming" the air into the filter since that seems to be the problem. If you cut it back it would just be "introducing" the air and not trying to shove it down the MAF's throat and causing you to run pig rich.
The whole 10.00 ram air thing is a great idea since it will mix up all that hot stale air under the hood with some cooler air coming from outside. If you're up to it I'd like to see if that would work instead of just removing it altogether.
