IMO....Drag radials are a pain in the A$$

Well, I just went back to regular Nitto 555's from the 555r's (Drag radials).
My daily driver sees about 75 miles per day and most of it is on the highway. I found out very quickly that getting caught in a down pour with standing/pooling water on the road, is no picnic to drive in. I was all over the road with no real control. Can be Reeeeeeal Scarry !!! On top of all this, I also found with the softer rubber and half the tread depth, it tends to pick-up nails etc. quite easily. No doubt they had much better traction for my power level, but it's not worth going into the guardrail for me ....

Sounds like you need 2 rear wheels for when you want to play or those sunny days when anything might happen. I remember back when E.T Street tires came out we were coming back from the track and it started raining. Before we could say oh sh*t it was to late and we were in the ditch.

I can probably drive my car with a blind fold but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.
I don't use DR's on the street unless I am going to the track with them on.

Thats pretty good. The D/R's are on my car 24/7 but it's also a 07 with 12,000 miles. It only see's the highway on sunny days. Have to agree for daily driver not best idea. To easy though to find some cheap rear wheels.

I get stuck in rain and snow with my stang cuz it's my DD. I like both my Continental extreme contact & the Pirelli sottozero I've owned in the past. You wouldn't believe the great dry traction the sottozero hand for a "snow" tire!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do once the turbo is installed about traction, I believe there is a 555r tire that also can be driven in the rain.

i only put my drag radials on my '07 when it was nice out to play around flooring it, I don't really need them on my 2012 though, traction isn't too bad with the stockers. on the '07 i was losing traction all through 1st and 2nd, had to let off without the drag radials. for normal daily driving I left the stock tires on and just knew i wouldn't get traction under 45mph

well it is a high performance tire designed for track use and street use. Hope you werent expecting it to be too good. I had those tires on my 04 GT, they were great street tires but IMO they sucked at the track. In the rain they were ok,no where near as bad as my MIckey Thompsons were, but then again you have a lot more power hahaha.

IF I were you, I would go back to a regular street tire since its your DD. also you will be lucky if those tires last you a year. mine lasted about 15K miles, and from what I have read between 12-17K miles is about as long as they last.

I think in a place that doesn't see rain all that often (i.e. South West) it wouldn't be to big of a problem...

I got stuck in a rain storm Saturday morning with my 315/40/18 NT05R's. There was standing water on the Interstate and sideways rain. I am surprised how good these tires are in the wet. You don't even want to know what I was doing with the DR's last Thursday. LOL.

I guess the rain we get out here isn't bad compared to everyone else's. I ran 555R's since 07 with no issues. Well, as long as I had tread depth they were fine. Once they started wearing down I had issues in the wet. But nothing like everyone talks about. The car never stepped out on me or went sideways when I wasn't expecting it.

Nittos have been the best DR in rain by far that I have tried.

Being a FL native who now lives in SoCal I can say 100% that SoCal doesn't get anywhere near the rain or storms the South East gets and that is why I was saying that someplace in the South West it's probably fine to run DR's on a DD...

I spent some time in Pensacola. I don't miss the rain storms at all. But that was years ago and in dark times. I owned a Trans Am at the time.

Yeah up until a few months ago I lived in FL all my life (Orlando, Tampa, Tallahassee, Miami) and those thunder storms are nothing to mess w/... I could only imagine riding on DR's in a FL thunder storm!

I never had an issue running my Nitto NT555R 305/35/20s on my car in the rain. Just adjust speed accordingly. There were a few times with a lot of standing water on the road where I had to slow down a lot but it's doable. If you're driving that much per day I don't know why you would want to run them every day anyways.
