I just got off the phone with the dealer this morning. The service manager said the clutch is all burnt up and they can't find anything mechanically wrong that caused it. They are going to call Ford and get back to me. I'm not feeling good about this...

thats what said.. i bet.. you it got burn markers all over flywheel..

Not not sure how it starting slipping in the first place. I don't rest my foot on the clutch or ride it. I've only been to the drag strip once. I'm a pretty conservative driver but do some spirited driving now and then. I've been driving manual cars since 1998.

1999 Cougar V6 - five speed manual - Sold at 80K with no issues
2003 Accord Coupe V6 (modded) - six speed manual - Sold at 28k with no issues
2005 Mustang GT (307RWHP) - five speed - 57k with no issues
2010 GT500 - six speed manual - 9500 and toast...????

Well, here's a possibility: you have a pulley, tune, CAI, etc, so probably pushing around 550 rwhp. Plus you have the Afco heat exchanger, so you power isn't degradated by heat. Next, you had some stickier-than-stock tires....the clutch was the weak link. Richard at Strictly says the clutch o. The 2010 GT500 is a piece of crap.

The service manager sent over pictures to SVT this morning. It seems they are interested in this case.

It never wore in flat maybe from the get go or it wasn't seated right, did you break it in properly?

I didn't realize I had to break the clutch in.
It was a brand new car when you bought it?
Yes clutches always need at least a 500 mile break in (go easy) preiod...
If not you develop hot spots and a non completely flat surface for the clutch to hold that eventually toasts your clutch.
also the "not flat" problem could be from a factory mess up with the clutch springs, or something not letting the clutch clamp down.
Just throwing a few things out there.

Thanks I appreciate the info. :) I've always babied my cars until the first oil change at 1500 miles.

i hit it dead on head.. now got to find reason.... i think i know the answer to the problem.. you know i don't know the name of it.. but i am sure the problem.. lie in the spring.. on the clutch.. not on clutch disc.. thay help hold the persure on the fingers.. of the clutch..

I know u don't want to hear this, because it means the repair won't be co ered under warranty, but my tuner, who has tuned/built literally dozens of GT500s, including a 2010 with 800+ rwhp, has had to replace the clutch in some of the 2010s because they start slipping at greater than stock hp levels. Since you already had the 100+ rwhp above stock, I'd just bite the bullet and get you a good aftermarket clutch like the ones that have been suggested earlier in this thread. You already have the clutch/tranny out....saves you the labor of paying it again a few thousand miles down theroad when another stock clutch again can't hold up to the high HP.

The dealer is telling me Ford will not honor the warranty because of the pulley swap. The additional power has lead to the premature wear. I'm not sure what to do...

IMHO suck it up and put a upgraded clutch in there. It's a risk you take when modding.

You can't tell me the power from a pulley swap is too much for the stock clutch. My god we'd have post after post about clutch replacements.

I bought this car last year because I believed strongly in Ford not taking bailout money. It was about a year too soon for me but I wanted to do something as an individual to help out Ford and the people who work there. It feld really good when I was contacted by someone on the niche line and get to put faces with my car. Now I have Ford looking for a quick out to save a buck on a long time and very loyal customer.
