Yep, I've had these conversations before. The last one went like this:

Dude: Nice Mustang! So where did you buy those 5.0 emblems from?

Me: They came with the car and thanks.

Dude: So they are putting the 5.0 back in the Mustang's?

Me: Yes. Since 2011 Ford has been using this new 5.0L engine.

Dude: That's not new. They had them in the Mustang's back in the 80's.

Me: Actually, the new 5.0L motor in my Mustang is an all new engine design. It's called a Modular motor so that means no push rods, has 32 valves, dual overhead cams for a total of 4 cams, variable valve timing and it's rated at 412hp/390tq from the factory.

Dude: Oh, so what you mean is you have the 4.6L V8 right? And four cams? What happened to the cam in the bottom of the intake valley?

Me: No. It has a 5.0L engine. The 4.6L motors are no longer in the Mustang's. It's a mod motor. Look, read up on it in some Ford Mustang magazines. See ya later.

Me: Thanks.

I have had this problem since 2007. Parnelli Jones Saleen doesn't say "BOSS" above the stripe but it DOES say "302".


Needless to say I have had some interesting conversations over the last 5 years. Glad you Coyote guys can share in my joy

Yep, I've had these conversations before. The last one went like this:

I would have totally been cool if the guy would have said something like, "Oh really, I thought they still were running 4.6s"...but he kind of got an attitude about it and talking to me like I was an idiot.

These are the most common. I avoid being rude because I know most people just simply don't know, but honestly, does it say BOSS anywhere on the car? Does it say Shelby anywhere on the car? There's two giant stickers going down the side of the car that say GT right on them. I don't get it sometimes.

Don't get asked about displacement too much.

I mailnly get asked "how much HP does it have?" When I say that the drivetrain is pretty much stock, and it has 300 HP from the factory, the reactions I get are like "wow, that's a lot of power." I find it funny, since the new 5.0s have 412, the Boss has 444, and the GT500 have 662, 300 doesn't seem like much to me anymore.

(and yes, I know that someone with a 5.0 is gonna quote me on my last sentance and say "It's not.") LOL

My wife's Toyota RAV4 4x4 V6 has 269hp. 300hp isn't a big deal anymore. Shit the new V6 Mustang's and Camaro's have more hp. Less torque, but more hp.

The point I was trying to make was, to MOST drivers, 300 hp does sound like a lot of power. On your drive home this evening from work, school, massage parlor, whatever, count how many cars on the road have 300 hp or more. Not as many as you think, percentage wise.

Yeah, only on the internet is a 600 hp car slow.. lol so 300 is doo doo , but you're right most people are clueless and mom's minivan doesn't compare. thats what draws the average joe in , when they drive a mustang/crapmaro or whatver that has a little bit of torque and hp they are like, damn thats fast!

Same here, that's why I'm not the overwhelming majority by hailing the 412 hp on the new 5.0 a beast. Do they run great,yes, but give me that same horse power in something smaller and I'll eat it's lunch, supper and dinner. The truth is, the 5.0 is a BIG car.
