Hey all, I got my car to the track for the first time last night. It was my first time on slicks, that was an adventure. I got off 4 passes before the rain.

First one we wont talk about, although im uploading the video now.

here are my 2 good passes.

Pretty happy so seeing how im still getting used to the tires suspension etc...

I pulled my plugs this morning to find this

AFR was at 10.5 seen here in the video

http://s245.photobucket.com/user/07procharger/media/115run_zps703b3552.mp4.html

I haven't popped a plug in over 4 years...now I toast almost all of them. The car never showed any ill effects as seen by my times, no CEL codes or trouble codes. It did pop a couple times on the return road

How can a car running 10.5 burn up all those plugs?

I run a stand alone fuel system with C-16 N2O blended race fuel in it

I'm running a single stage direct 200 shot.

thoughts?

Here is my first pass on slicks for some comic relief

What is your timing at wot? I was just going to say you
R mph from the 1/8th (96) to 120 in the 1/4 seemed low. I would have expected 123, 124 or so.

What was it at 4-5k? That likely where it knocked.
Looks like every cyl was knocking.
I'd check the O2's if that C16 mix is leaded. Seems very odd to knock on C16. W a 200 shot you might need to pull 2, maybe 4 deg? If it's every cyl I'd guess it's very lean, or WAY too much timing. But wouldn't think 21 is bad(but don't know stock timing on those cars)

21 degrees should be fine with C16. Hmmm, something else is going on. Was it C16, or mixed with pump gas?

How much fuel was in your gas tank on the last pass? I say last pass because if that happened on your first pass, it should have fallen WAY off on the next 3 passes. You said you made four passes, so just taking a stab in the dark here, that something happened mostly on the last pass.

A little more info on my system.

The motor runs on 94 octane with gt500 pumps and 39 pound cobra injectors.

The nitrous system runs on C-16 Sunoco N20 specific race fuel through a NX SAFE standalone fuel system that sits where my battery used to.

I run twin 10 pound bottles that are teed together.

I honestly think it happened on my second run, that's the only run that felt flat when I went into 4th.

How the car continued to perform is beyond me. I can post up all of my passes if you guys want.

I run the standalone system at 50 PSI for the fuel and run the bottles at 1000 PSI sometimes 1100 PSI (twin bottle heaters)

Only thing I can see happening is I lost fuel pressure...but I have a Hobbs switch right off of the fuel solenoid. If it dropped the nitrous should have shut down.

I guess a fuel pressure gauge for the nitrous side of things is in order.

I have run this set up since last spring. I only did weight reduction this winter and a new gear box.

The car ran strong on the last run..but did the most back firing on the return road.

Now that I think of it I believe I heard a slight pop at the top end of run 3.

Im stumped

And you said that every pass was 10.5 on the A/F? Thats pretty rich anyway, it should be more like 11.5 to 11.8.

So the best pass was #? and the worst pass was #?, and when did you verify the A/F? You have a wideband? If so where is the sensor placed?

Regardless, when you go back to the track, do an 1/8th mile pass first. I would always bring extra plugs and check after every pass. I am just shocked you didn't get any misfire codes or the flashing wrench light or anything?

Verify that pump on the stand alone is working. Also 1100 psi is pretty high, I always would run 1000. I think all of the jetting charts and such are based on 950 psi on the nitrous side, not sure what pressure on the fuel side. It makes a little more sense now, as I was thinking now way should your plugs look like that if you were running C16 (116 octane). So you are running a mix of pump gas (94) and C16 with nitrous, not sure what the TRUE octane of that mix is when you run it.

What is your spread (N20/Fuel)? and what chart did you use and what does it call for pressure wise on both sides?

My chart would definitely change based on either/both pressures. For example, on my system from Nitrous Outlet, I picked up some good power reducing the fuel pressure on the nitrous system from 7psi to 5.5 psi. Just an example.

Ill post up all of my time slips tomorrow. Now that I think of it. My bottle pressure was on the high side.

Nitrous outlet jetted my kit for the 200 shot from their facility. I am to blame for not checking my plugs more often

I agree I should have thrown a wrench light or at least a misfire code.

Nitrous outlet jetted me for 50 psi fuel and 950 nitrous. I think I just figured out why I popped them. Too much bottle pressure.

I can't verify 10.5 on every run. Just the 2 I recorded from the cabin.

You think I could do that much damage from a couple hundred more psi on the bottle?

Wideband placement. Brand new sensor calibrated Friday afternoon before going to the track

Depends where you were at tune wise at 950. If you were already were you should be, then 1100+ psi would make a difference. I know pressure does make a huge difference when its too low (ever make a pass at only 800 psi, and it feels like shit?).

And since it looks like you didn't check plugs often, are we really sure that all of that happened at your last trip at the track?

Talk to Nitrous Outlet and see what Dave thinks, he is a smart cookie.

Defenantly happens a the track. Popping in the exhaust started after 2nd pass I believe.

Cory you remember when I mentioned something didn't feel right?

Oh and seriously, 10.5 AF is too rich.

It popped out the exhaust after you made a pass and got out of it, right?

Ya. It happened right as I went thru the traps.

First 2 passes I can't confirm AFR because the go pro was outside on the first pass. And on the pass seat on the second because the starter ripped it off the Car.

I don't look at my gauges generally while on a pass.

Just got back from being away on the weekend & saw this. Man that sucks. Have you done a compression check since this happened? When my plugs looked like that I melted 3 pistons. Hopefully you didn't do that type of damage.
