I've searched and can't seem to find any information on the subject and really would like an answer. So i recently lost my last set of keys (first set was stolen from apartment) and am trying to figure out the cheapest way to get a new key and reprogram it. I've read I need to go to the dealership and it will be upwards of $150 but I'm hoping for a cheaper solution. Any information helps. Thanks guys

There is no cheaper alternative then having the car towed to the dealer. DO NOT try to start it with a non programmed spare. If you were to find your keys soon, it would be easy to program a new key without involving the dealer, but you have to have one active, working key to program the spares. Otherwise suck it up and call your local Ford dealer :/

iirc you have to have 2 active keys to easily program another without involving the dealer. short of that its a trip to the dealer and prepare with lube

There is no cheaper solution in your case as already stated. Plus, if I had a key stolen I would want to get new ones and the car reprogrammed to them anyways. Otherwise you could wake up on morning to a missing car. Just my $.02

That is correct, you need 2 working keys to program a new one (to prevent a valet from copying your key for example). So if you have lost your keys the only option is to get new ones from the dealer and have them programmed. Once programmed it will delete the old keys from the memory so whoever stole them won't be able to start your car.

Remotes are easy to program, but not the keys.

Have you contacted any locksmiths? Alot of the mobile guys have the ability to cut and program keys. Even disable PATS in cars.

I would do this.

I thought you only needed 1 working key to program the other?
I recently lost one of the two keys that I had and I was told to buy a new OEM key from ebay, cut it, and then reprogram it with the working key I still have.

Nope, requires two working keys to program it yourself. That is to keep someone from getting one of your keys (like a valet), cutting a new key, and then coming to get your car in the dark of night.

The procedure is outlined in the owners manual. But that is why when I bought the car I asked for a third key to be programmed. It didn't have to be the integrated key/fob that the 2013 uses because all I want it for is to be in the drawer should one of my keys disappear as happened to my 2006.

Do they make the switch blade keys for '05-'09's? I like that style of an all in one key/fob but I have yet been able to track one down.

Thanks for the responses guys! Seems like i might as well head to the dealer. Will i only receive one set from them or two? If one ill go ahead and order another set online, are they fairly cheap?

316, if they only give you 1 key you might as well fork out for a second key programmed, then go order some online and make sure you have a 3rd hidden somewhere
