So I did search and found that the K&n can cause a lean a/f, basically I've been running 92 octane fuel and still get audible detonation. I don't know what tune if any is on the car, all I know is the dealer said the previous owner had it tuned. Would this intake really cause such a lean condition that it's audible even when running premium fuel? Thanks in advance for your input.

If previous owner had a tune. Then yes.A tune will usually lean the fuel mixture and add timing. So if you add more air to a car that was tuned for the factory air box the car can't compensate for the extra air flow.Put the factory air box back on till you can get a tuner.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I bought the car as it is with the cai. I don't have a stock box to put on. I guess I'll just take it easy till I get a tuner, and maybe I'll try buying fuel somewhere else. I'm guessing it could be that also as I've bought my gas at the same place for years.

I just installed a K&N. I havent had any issues with it. I still have my stock intake if you find yourself needing/wanting one let me know and Ill send it out to you for next to nothing. Its just sitting on a shelf in my garage now. But I dont know that will solve your problems one of the guru's on here can tell you if that would be a way to go.

Thanks man I really appreciate it , I'll let you know if i can't get it figured out. It doesn't happen all the time it seems like only when the cars been running awhile and it's pretty warm outside. Also only at full throttle
