I recently installed a Kenne Bell 2.8LC twin screw supercharger on my 2012 5.0 Mustang, and made an installation video while I did. The purpose of me making this video is to show people what it's like to do this install at home, from the perspective of a true backyard mechanic. This is not from some professional race shop with unlimited tools and experience. I have never installed a blower on anything, but I have done some extensive modifications to cars. I have basic hand tools, the only tools I got specifically for this job were a heat gun, and I borrowed a friends torque wrench that reads in in-lbs. I don't think any of the tools required for this install are things a backyard mechanic shouldn't own anyway. The amount of time required for each section is generous, and includes bullshitting and breaks and gathering parts and tools. So if you allot yourself as much time as it took me, you will have enough time to get great results like I did. And also end up with a clean professional looking install. Even picky car guys have complimented my engine bay when they see it in person.

This is intended to supplement the amazing Kenne Bell instructions, and let you know what you're getting into if you decide to install this kit yourself at home with no lift and no fancy shop. I couldn't cover every single step and actually make a video people could sit through lol, but I tried to show all the problems I had (which wasn't many), and the important stuff I thought people would want to see. Please feel free to ask questions, the whole reason I am making this is to spread information about my install, and let people know what a GREAT company Kenne Bell is, and what kind of awesome product and customer service they provide. It is truly top notch.

Came out great! Watched the whole thing. Pretty interesting to see the differences.

Not to start a Whipple/KB debate, but I'd say the grinding of the cover probably equates to the same amount of grunt work as the cutting of the support for the intake and the other miscellaneous drilling, taping, and cutting/molding you had to do. The timing cover is probably a little more daunting of a task for some people on paper, whereas the KB kit only requires a few adjustments to be made. I say anyone could do either one.

No mention of a BAP though? The KB kit doesn't come with one?

No BAP with the kit, and I still don't have one. My stock pump seems to be working fine at these power levels. KB does claim lower parasitic losses so maybe that's part of it.

I would agree it sounds to me like the same amount of work as far as grinding the timing cover and cutting the hole for the air intake. The only thing I would say is that grinding a thick cast timing cover and making metal dust fly everywhere is more dangerous to your paint and stuff than using a small reciprocating saw to cut sheet metal. Of course you can cover things up correctly (which is what you did) and still have great results. Also keep in mind the lower inlet temps of not having your filter under the hood. In the end you're absolutely right, either job is totally doable. I'm glad I was able to give people a preview of this install and let them know that its not that bad, and just go for it.

I told you already beer is gross!! Besides who knows how this thing woulda turned out if I was hammered while installing it lol!

Like one of the guys here in the forum said man, you should put it in Tech or sticky on the DIY. I think i will help a lot to any body trying to install it them self as it was very complete. :thumb:
