Well i like the sound but choose to go with long tubes because of the power increase. After doing a lot of searching before i bought mine,Most were picking up 15 hp on the dyno with bolt ons.As far as shorties saw a couple were they picked up around 4hp.As with any mod the numbers can be misleading. They seem to always fine tune it after the mod.But was the car tuned to the max before the mod to get an accurate measure of much was actually gained.

Installed my BBK long tubes a week ago. So worth it car pulls much harder now. Took me two nights to install, pita but not rocket science. I had a lift though which was a huuggee help. Shorties are a waste of money IMO.

Off topic but your stang looks damn good, love that front valence/fog light combo along with the color

Go with longtubes. Shorties are a joke. People cry all the time about the installation, but just prepare for a solid days work. Honestly, get a friend to do the install with you and it's a breeze, just on jackstands. I'd do it again for sure. Go with those kooks as well. Just installed their lts and catted x. The sound is awesome and the hp gains are there.

That's exactly what I'm lookin at. Saw them on AM for $1200-$1300, are you running cats?

Yes I am running their cats. The difference power wise from catted and cattless is negligible for most applications. I'm not building a race car, just improving my daily, so catted was best for me. The fit and finish is great on the system, and there are a lot of other resources out there to make the install easier. I ordered mine through late model restoration, best price I could find. They make them per order, so the wait was a few weeks on them, but it was worth it. The craftsmanship, like I said, is incredible. You might find a system of equal quality somewhere, but you wouldnt find better quality for sure. Make sure you have a friend to help guide you to studs or bolts from the top or bottom. That really makes the installation easy, if not a little tedious at times.

A lift would have been nice, but its very doable with a jack and jackstands. Do yourself a favor and get a yoga mat, or something similar to make it a little more comfortable. One of the things I wish I had done.

so it costs about 1k more for lt vs shorties and you only gain about 10 more hp so 100 bucks per pony... seems a little exorbitant for very little gain.

You can get them cheaper in the Classifieds.

And $100/hp is something I'm used to after owning Harleys....LOL!!!!

i dispise harleys :/ all they do is make ungodly amounts of obnoxiously loud exhaust noise.

i did look around and jba has some lt's for 499 which is very reasonable, the only problem with them other then the other stated points is that they're also illegal for street use in california, so that automatically means it's gonna cost you a couple hundred to get it illegally smogged which is whole new headache.

How's it goin all, I'm probably beating a dead horse here with this question but I'm stuck on whether or not to go long tubes or shorties. I was fairly certain I wanted a set of kooks LT's/ catted x pipe combo until my buddy mentioned that with LT's they pose a clearance issue with the transmission. Essentially he said in the event I need to replace my clutch, I will have to remove the headers and buy new gaskets, making a fairly straightforward process a bit more involved and expensive. He went on to say that shorties do not pose such an issue. So I'm stuck here and could use a bit of your thoughts on this. Thanks

Im not sure if every even read your thread as the title is ver misleading.

Side note for other people.

Hes asking not what makes more power but rather what causes a routine job a inconvience. Not what has better gains.

Longtubes really aren't worth the hassle. I've did all kinds of different installs on my s197 and longtubes were by far the worst and most frustrating. The loudness is nice but constantly getting pulled over for it eventually pissed me off enough to where I pulled them off.

If he's worried about having to replace the clutch after installing the headers, then he can always put in a performance clutch at the same time and save himself the hassle. Though the naysayers say longtubes arent worth it, shorties are even less worth the money and trouble. Install is straightforward, the sound is great, and unless you romp on it past the police, there are plenty louder things on the road for them to worry about.
