I put this in Chit Char as I'm not sure it qualifies as Tech. I did a lot of searching but really only came up with this thread:
http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70986&highlight=Broken+seat
Which really only references the pop but no solutions other that a very expensive lumbar assembly from Ford.
I was shifting my weight in my seat (I'm a big guy but not a BIG guy at 240 if you know what I mean), and as I applied a little pressure to the area where my hand is in the pic I get a loud pop, then suddenly the lumbar gives way completely. With weight in the seat the motor for lumbar pushes on the rear of the seat cover considerably, where my hand is in the rear pocket. Also took a pic of the offending broken spring, which I can only assume bears any and all load applied in the rearward direction. Such a flimsy piece to hold any weight.
My questions are thus:
1. Will it hurt anything to usenthe seat daily like this, I.e. Damage the seat or cover?
2. Are there possibly any solutions to repair short of a several-hundred-dollar trip to the Ford parts counter? I don't even care if the fix sacrifices the lumbar adjustability.
Thanks in advance.
