I'm up in the air between two tires. I have asset of 17" race stars and I'm needing a taller tire. I'm looking at the M&H 295/50/17 and also looking at the Hoosier 29x10x17 drag slicks. Anybody used either of these? I thinking the slick will be better for my application (700 + rwhp stick shift) but I've heard the M&H tires hook pretty good. Opinions?

M&Hs do work, I did a 1.412 60' with a 325/50/15 when I had 604 rwhp.

But, I had an auto, so if you want to play it safe get the slick. You will get more passes out of the slick also.

I agree with both of y'all. I'm gona order the slicks. What I should do is buy the 17" m&h's and buy a 15" wheel and put slicks on it.

I've been running 275/50/17 M&H Racemasters on my '11 GT stick and '14 GT auto and they dead hook with 25 psi and a light burnout rolling out of the waterbox. I have't had the need for slicks since my '68 Pontiac GTO (big block 406 ci V8 with tons of torque).

That 17" Hoosier slick is 28x10 .. and I was cutting 1.52 60' with them yesterday on a shitty track ... 14psi cold a 4-sec burnout and leaving at 3500 off a 2-step.

On a decently prepped track I've been able to run 20psi, launch @5000.

I also have 275/45-18 M&H DR's, I was getting 1.55 60' with them with 4.10's but they take a LOT more work for me to get em' to hook since I switched to a 4.56 gear so I have quit using them for the most part.

I do not have a drag racing suspension just GT500 takeoff struts and shocks with Vogtland springs and usually carry 50 pounds of crap in the trunk.

Yes they are, but they are REALLY soft--a friend of mine barely got 20 passes out of a set---are you seeing different results? I was shocked they were already done so quick.

I've got around 20 passes and still have plenty of life left in mine. I'd guess they are around 1/3 to 1/2 worn.

Your friend is right, I only got 27 passes.

How long of a burnout are you doing? I have found that they really require very little time. I run mine at 12-14# depending on track conditions.

That's not the case on a car at my power level, they have to be hot. I heat them for 5 sec in third gear. I do the same thing to my MT drag radials and am getting much more life. So far i am at 55 runs on them and they still look good.
They hooked well, but the poor life kept me from buying another set.
