Cool article. I remember how cruising used to be so big but almost nonexistent anymore. They are trying to bring it back in Van Nuys. I remember back in the 80's, when I lived in NorCal, cruising on El Camino Real in SantaClara was HUGE. 4 lanes each way for a 2-3 mile stretch - packed every Fri & Sat night. I dont think we did anything else on weekends.

The fact is, most young kids don't give a shit about cars. They're more interested in knowing if Snookie is gonna get punched again. :asshat:

If they are into cars they think a fart can on a lowered Civic is where it's at. :thud:

Wow! That takes me back when the only thing we had to do was figure out what to do to the car ,from week to week, to make it faster. Cudo's to you for doing this.

Cruzin The Vard as we called it was a ritual for my generation too.
Muscle Cars everywhere (late 70's) and a bit of stoplight showin off.
Then park with the hoods up and music going and BS half the night.
It was pretty much known to stay off the Vard on Friday and Saturday unless you were a kid with a car.
But when the odd Family sedan or wagon wandered in they were treated with respect and everyone around them was cool.
Then we had an element move in the scene that rather ruined it.
Beat em in a little race and they wanted to fight. WTF???
And of course they had a bunch of buds in other cars to dogpile if you took em up on there threats.
Cops pretty much saw it too.
Before they would just jump on those being outright dangerous, and stupid or drunk.
Otherwise they let us hang out and let us be.
But after the element started causing problems they pretty much shut it all down.
No parking and no showin off.
I would like to see it come back, but doubt it will.
Too many A-Holes in the world today.
What the hell happened??

I would bet the majority of this site and other Mustang forums are made up of young adults. There's plenty of hope. ;)

God Job Chris. We used to have something like this on the strip in Va Beach. Local PD and city officials kept squeezing it out enforcing all kinds of BS laws and not to mention young punks ruining eveything for everyone. I miss those days.

Chris, first of all, great job! Try to get the word out.

I'm not saying that ALL young folks think cars are boring. I'm just saying that it is getting to be something that MOST don't give a shit about. This forum is full of young and old car freaks. But I would think there is not one punk car hater that hangs out here much less has ever visited this site.

Take for instance this article posted just last week:

http://www.bnet.com/blog/electric-c...n-young-people-don-8217t-care-about-cars/3450

It's great that guys like Chris are on the front lines. However don't get your hopes up. Like I have said on this forum before, this is 1970 all over again for the car industry. The Pinto II, Vega II and Mustang III are on the horizon! Suck it all in and ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN!

You heard it here first!
