i would do this except my hood scoop is riveted into the hood, which is quite annoying.

I'd like to do this too. I'm just trying to find a "U" gasket that would work better than just using a split hose. I think I'm going to just drill out the center section of the honey comb and cut a smaller section of the hood out. It's got to be better than nothing. Also, it looks like the two pieces of the hood are pretty damn close at sections. Are the pieces close together at the front? In the pictures it looks like it is for sure in the back. Anyone know what the thickness is at these sections? .. or even the thickness of one layer of the hood?

The split hose actually works really well and looks a lot better than i thought it would. It also helps keep water from getting in when you spray the hood down when washing. Each layer is about 1/16" thick and yes it single towards the front and doubled up with a groove towards the rear where the hood undersupport framing is.

I noticed there was a dead spot in the back of the scoop ie the scoop directs air down but the hole in the hood doesnt go back that far. Thats why i used a thicker piec of hose there to block this area off. I also raised the rear of the scoop slighty to let air out for the heat extraction effect when driving.

Im currently kicking around the idea of putting a heat extractor louver on top of the hood scoop but not sure how to go about it or how it would look.

To each his own I guess. It just doesn't look finished to me. I think I'm going to create a hole about half of the size towards the front of the scoop so that I can cut out where the two layers of the hood are close. Than I'll finish it with the U Channel.

I thought about just cutting then one layer area towards the fron of the scoop, but im glad i didnt, the large cut lets heat out alot better.
Your gonna want to cut it out towards the rear of the scoop as the air hits the underside of the scoop and gets directed all down at the rear. Luckily i did mine when the pollen was just starting to come out, the pollen showed me exactly where the air was coming in and hitting and it was all on the back of the intake manifold and firewall, basicly the bac/ last 2-3 inches of the hole i cut.

i was worried about it too...glad i did it now. and i used a skil saw with a metal blade. try being careful of not scratching the rest of the hood with a 20lb skil saw hovering over your hood.

Thought about what you said. At worst I can block off the rear of the hood scoop so that air is forced to go directly into the hole. Although I still don't see it being a problem. The air would go to the back of the scoop and than "try" to go back out but it'd only get stopped by incoming air. Only so much air would be caught in the rear of the scoop and anything else would go into the hole in the hood.

It forces its way between the scoop and the back of the hood as welml i could see it lifting in the rear on the highway. But thats not really a bad thing, at least it has a way out so you dont have to worry about the scoop ripping off lol

Thank god for it being bolted!! :D

Yeap!, btw be careful not to break any of the locking tabs as thats the only thing that holds the rear of the scoop down. There are 4 bolts 2 in the front and 2 on the sides about halfway back, no bolts on the rear, but the clips do a good job of holding it on.

I pulled it off last night to mess around with it and make sure there was no 3M tape holding it down. I didn't realize those two rear clips until it was being held on but I quickly saw them and got it off. It's defiantly a lot easier with a second set of hands to hold the scoop up so the other clips don't go back in! I experimented with cutting the grille out in the scoop, without taking it off, not perfect enough for me so I'm going to end up making my own grille for it. I'm going to try to put the hood liner back on and see if I can get it to fit otherwise I'm going to have to sweet talk my painter in doing me a favor! LOL

Yeah those back 2 clips got me at first too. Had the same problem i would pop one out and the other would go back in lol. I originaly wanted to do a billet or mesh grill but once i looked at the scoop and stock honeycomb insert i decided to keep it and just cut the back off. I like how it turned out, you really have to look close to see its cut, especialy with the hood closed.
