Smart move, listening to the guys from here. There probably isnt anything you want to do that one of these guys hasnt done before and can give advise on.

Cams I would leave stock. No reason, given your power goals, to invest the money in those. Stockers will do perfectly and the money can be spent elsewhere. A turbo grind wouldn't be a bad thing mind you, just not worth the money in my opinion.

Thanks for the input. I decided on no port and polishing, and no on the stroker kit.
About the oil pump, is the gt500 oil pump in the classifieds the one I need and just get the billet gears put in? Or should I get the pump from TSS?

Nevermind. Decided on waiting on the pump until I can get the TSS pump with the billet gears. I plan on taking the stock Crank, pistons and rods out tomorrow after work when I have more time. Gonna have to take everything slow now that I'm closing on my first home this week.

How how do you plan on spinning the car? That is the million dollar question when it comes to valve train, heads, and oil pump IMO.

If you are going to stay under 7200, then I think you are going with the right combo. If you plan on going beyond that - I would think hard about the melling race pump and some better parts in the train.

It is RPM that is the mod motor killer, not HP.

I plan to keep it around 7k or so when it's done. I'm not planning to go all out just yet but then again I want to build for more power than I'm planning just to be safe. Most of the builds I've seen with my power goals run the TSS pump without any problems so I'm hoping that'll be my case also.

Should be okay. I wouldn't want to surpass 7500+ without the melling and serious valve train personally.

Think Ill consider just going with the melling pump to be on the safe side plus have it in case I decide to push it a little more. Thanks for the heads up mark

One thing I would recommend adding to your build is a set of Manley Extreme duty valves. You don't need to spend money on porting the heads but with a turbo setup I highly recommend better valves.

Paul had a set of Manley SS valves on the heads already and was running low 10's on his setup. Are the Manley Extreme duty valves worth the extra cash??

i'll be removing the crankshaft, rods, and pistons in a bit and then hopefully i can get the block out to get machined in a week or two. Turns out my tuner who also does builds is quitting the build side of his job. He's decided to build a mobile dyno and stick straight to tuning from now on which is a hit to me since he would have saved me a lot of money on parts and work. I'll have to look into having a shop down south complete the build once i'm ready.

Just finished up for today. Managed to take the main bearing caps off and four of the piston/rod combos off the block. Wouldve went smooth except for me stripping a couple of the side bolts holding the caps on. I'll have pics up later tonight or tomorrow. Now I need to figure out how I'm going to get the bolts off so I can finish getting the rest done.

If i wouldn't have stripped those damn bolts this would have been a really easy job. Keep in mind i've never even attempted anything like this and even though i jacked up a couple bolts i had fun starting this up on my own. i'll be taking the block down to the machine shop either tomorrow afternoon or thursday morning and have them remove the stripped bolts. then i can move on with removing the stock crank and pricing out the forged pieces and ARP bolts

Were you using a 12pt socket? I'm trying to figure out how you rounded them bolts if you were using the right size socket.

I'm pretty sure I was. I think I started with the wrong size and It started to strip. When I switched over to the correct size due to how tight they were it finished stripping them. I'll be 100,000 times more careful from now on.

It's all good man, you have to learn somewhere....

This being your first time, a lot of people like to write down what they do, and how they did it...
